the voices in your head

Darn, I thought you were working up a head of steam for the Lindy Hop and Argentine Tango that will be done on DWTS next week.

She cute...
I'll have to ask her to dance next...
(kidding)

Here is what is currently going on in my head for Standard (I'm not sure what is going up there in Latin):

1.) Where is the lady...
2.) Where do I want the lady...
3.) What direction is my body moving in...

4.) Shoot! Why are thoughts two and three the same answer....

Repeat 1-3 a bunch of times with a lot of 4's followed by a 1-3 with....

Woo-hoo answers 2 and 3 are the same, wait did I just take a toe lead from a lowered position... <non PG-13 material follows>

oh, I love her shoes.... and that skirt - I must have that skirt! tehehehehe!

In all seriousness, I think about everything and anything... meh, I'd be writing a novel if I disclosed any of it...

context.....International Standard......

"Ok.....keep eyes open...keep them OPEN....eyes open.....Mmmmmm....love the melody in this chorus......dang! Eyes Open!...eyes open....eyes open.....oh, the whisk....love the whisk....Dang!....keep eyes OPEN!....keep them open........."

My #1 goal from now on--during comps--is to going to be to make sure that the voices inside my head don't talk over the music. They can get loud, and then while the technique may be better, the musicality loses out. I try to set 3-4 priorities per dance, because at this point, that's what I can handle.

In cha-cha and rumba, the things I'm saying most frequently to myself are:
-Sharp
-Relax! (The upper body)
-Finish the hip
-Move! (The spine, through space.)

Things the voices should say more frequently--and do say when I'm practicing slowly--include:
-Wind up!
-Build resistance
-MORE (rotation)
-Upper body first (when rotating)
-Straight axis-->Think about the stick
