Things are not always what they seem...

The other night, I was looking out of my window, across at my neighbour and saw the outline of someone standing perfectly still at the window. About an hour later, the person was still there. I squainted, thinking, were their smoking? Not that that mattered. It just seemed a bit odd to be still there an hour later, "standing perfectly still".

The next day, I looked out and saw that my "person" was actually... a plant! :nope:

Whilst laughing at myself  I remembered, as a child, I woke up with a start and thought I could see the shape of a lion's head at the foot of my bed. Just as I was about to leap out of my bed with fright, I realised that it was my blanket which I must have pushed off and it had formed a shape which resulted in my "lion's head". :?

So, what things have you seen which on increased awareness/conciousness/daylight, they were not what you first thought? (Do I need to add to keep it G rated, please?  )

Aural rather than visual:

One night I was awakened by the sound of a small child right outside my bedroom window crying very loudly. No, it was a cat that was, well, caterwallering.

Years later when we first moved to North Dakota, I was sleeping in (I was entitled to, since I didn't get off duty until midnight). Or rather trying to sleep in. Again, there was the sound of a kid out there riding a tricycle that had a horribly loud squeak. But looking out, there was no kid. It turned out to be a squirrel (hint: there are no squirrels that I know of in the cities of Orange County, so I had no previous personal experience with the sounds they can make).

My refrigerator has a quirky motor and one night, when I was watching TV, I heard it pretty clearly, but it was a bit differnt than usual. I muted the TV and listened closely. The sound was coming from behind. I looked behind me and saw my sleeping cat. It was the cat snoring!

It happened to me a couple of times!

When I was little I used to sleep with a small light on. Usually from a small lamp, placed on the wardrobe. Before falling asleep, I usually got very scared when I saw the reflection of the bulb in the window. We had double windows, so it looked to me like burning eyes. That and one of my mother's scary bed-time stories did the trick! I was lying in bed for hours too scared to move or breathe!
