things worth a magnet on my fridge

okay, so here's what I am talking about:

two things that are on my fridge

#1 (next to a picture of pro, onaccident but funny, imo)

COMPASSION MANDALA...from The Brother's Karamozov, by Dostoyevsky

...have no fear of human sin. Love people even in their sin, for that is the semblance of divine love and the highest love on earth...Love all of creation, the whole and every grain of sand in it. love every leaf, every ray of light. love the animals, the plants, love everything. If you love everything you will percieve the divine mystery in things. Once you percieve it, you will begin to comprehend it better every day. And you will come at last to love the whole world with an all-embracing love.

and:

#2 perhaps more practical

TITLE: ANYWAY...(author unknown, from the wall of the children's home of Mother Theresa of Calcutta)

people are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered

LOVE THEM ANYWAY

if you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives

DO GOOD ANYWAY

if you are successful, you wind false friends and true enemies

BE SUCCESSFUL ANYWAY

the good you do will be forgotten tomorrow

DO GOOD ANYWAY

honesty and frankness make you vulnerable

BE HONEST AND FRANK ANYWAY

what you spent years building may be destroyed overnight

BUILD ANYWAY

people really need help but may attack you if you help them

HELP PEOPLE ANYWAY

give the world the best you've got and you'll get kicked in the teeth

GIVE THE WORLD THE BEST YOU'VE GOT ANYWAY

Things on my fridge...

One is a simple crayon drawing DH made of a cat face (looking rather demented, I might add), with the caption, "I can smell your brains." We've had it for years, and have moved it twice. I love my "brain kitty."

One is a copy of a Tom Toles (Washington Post political cartoonist) cartoon regarding gay marriage. A couple is getting married (straight), and the people in the audience are commenting. "She cheated on all her spouses...so did he." "He's marrying her for the sex...she's marrying him for the money." "It will last less than a year...but at least they're not gay." "Ah, tradition!"

I've currently got a picture of my "nieces"--the daughter and neice of a good friend of mine.

Oh, and a business card for a local AT teacher I'd like to take a lesson from some time.

i like this thread -- have always been a fan of fridge-inspiration.

currently, i don't have anything up there for me... gonna have to rectify that one.

but i have something up there for my kids...

"believe nothing,
no matter where you read it
or who has said it,
not even if i have said it,
unless it agress with
your own reason and
your own common sense"

trying to raise some independently thinking young men... hard to do in the current mind-control climate. ah well... they seem to be doing smashingly, if i do say so myself. ;)

I've got a bunch of magnets with nothing to them now. I do have however a gift certificate hanging up, a recipe, an appointment card, and a coupon lol.

I have a picture on my fridge that my nephew drew last year, when he was five. I smile every time I see it. (And considering how often I go to my fridge, that's a lot!)

Thanks for the inspiration! Here's an idea: I need something on my fridge that'll make me frown/recoil every time I see it, thus encouraging me to visit my fridge less often. I wonder if Peaches has extra color prints of her demented kitty available for sale...

Let's see, 'frig has an assortment of magnets...my favorite being the cute little stuffed Christmas Reindeer spread eagled smack dab in the middle (the magnets are on the "arms and feet" - they don't look much like hooves).

I also have pictures of special people that i want to remeber to think about and lift up...on my fridge...godchildren, pro, family members...special friends, former exchange student...I also have my wedding announcement from the newspaper 22 years ago up there....my kitchen is a hodge podge, like my life

Get this: my fridge in my new place isn't magnetic! It's some brushed m.etal, and magnets don't stick to it!

However, I did not let this get to me: I bought some magnetic primer (made by Rustoleum) and painted a narrow wall in my kitchen (cooincidentally, next to the fridge). I then painted over it with the paint color that I used for the rest of the kitchen. Once all the paint dried, I had a magnetic wall!

So, I've stuck on it:

- the Chinese character for love (pronounced ai in Mandarin), drawn by myself using pens and ink I bought in Beijing

- coupons for my favorite hippy grocery store

- coupons for a nearby hardware store

- recipie for poached salmon

Not very thrilling, I guess, but the wall itself is quite cool.

I need one that says, "I can smell your fat!" (I guess brains are fat, but not all fat is brains. If only it were . . . .)

I have magnetic poetry on the front.

On the side I have little works of art, a 3D artichoke, and a magnet that says, "I fall down, I get up, I keep dancing."

I have

various Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh magnets
magnets from national parks and interesting places we visited: Arches, Bryce Canyon, RMNP, Pikes Peak, Mt. Vesuvius
magnets from miscellaneous businesses
A magnet saying "caution, don't eat in front of me, I am dieting"
family picture in magnetic father's day frame.
small dry-erase board
miscellaneous notes
