This week's mission (Tue Jan 18) - Shines

Think of shines the same way, focus on the wonderful music you hear. How can you NOT respond?? THink of the greatest percussionists you've heard, the awesome pianists and trumpet players, and bassists. How is it possible to not want to move your body naturally to such intoxicating rythms?? How can you say you dance salsa if you can't dance independently without somone moving your hips for you? or forcing you to take steps

Just do it!

Right on, africana!Put on some Tito Puente at home and let loose!

Pacion I already accomplished this mission :D ironically it was done the same night as the first mission 8) ......and purely by accident too :) we were doing a turn and our hands missed so he let me do my thing and he did his thing until we were back to a point where we could 'reconnect' :D it was actually pretty cool....... :)

This week's mission:

a) guys - to let go of your partner so that she can do shines
b) girls - to get your partner to let you go for a few seconds so that you can
Mission accomplished -- I think. Did a fair amount of shines last night, with quite a few leaders. I wouldn't deliberately break away from the leader for shines (which to me is backleading, which was my problem with this week's missions), but what I did with leaders who don't normally let you go for shines was:

- To start the dance with shines -- as you walk onto the dancefloor and wait for the leader to start, do some shines to the intro of the song. That also works as a signal that you like shines (even though, in my case, I'm not particularly fond of them ).

- To use the opportunity after an accidental slip of hands (I didn't do it deliberately in order to do shines, but I suppose shine lovers can create these accidental slips to break free if they are desperate enough... ).

Question for Youngsta: how do you encourage shine-hating followers to shine when you release them?

Mission acomplished! :)

It was definitly easier on friday since there was live music, and the band itself kind of "asks" you to let o of the folloer and start to do shines... with DJ music it's not quite the same...

I did notice now and then, specially with follows I didn't know, a panic sticken look on their faces when I left them alone, and took pity...

Not that I so much of a shine fan myself, and never quite managed to do anything so fancy, but there's always room for improvement!

:nope: sorry, this does not count  any "missions" completed before the mission has been set will be considered "null & void"

This was way to easy a mission. I release for shines rather frequently during every dance.

 Hang in there Youngsta. As you are a "seasoned" dancer, certain missions would be easier for you. But, don't worry. My brain cells are working overtime for you, Sabor and others such as yourselves :raisebro:

(I know you won't be "backward in coming forward" if you have ideas/suggestions for future missions  )

 Take some of your own advice! =>

I like this approach

LOL i'm not youngsta but they would either have to dance or just stand there watching the guy :?
actually, one cool move that indicates "shine time" is when the guy initiates a switch of postions on the floor i.e cross each other back-toback while dancing/shining/walking to the music

some guys are afraid of shines too and I'm not too shy to ask them to let me go if the music is so good that nothing but an intense set of shines would satisfy me :P Although I find that I've influenced quite a few leads to start trying and enjoying shines :) now how's that for backleading?

Anyways, Pacion I like my other suggestion for a mission - dance an entire song all by yourself ON the dancefloor (and refuse any partners while doing this)
Another suggestion: Applaud and shout/yell for the performing live band after every song just like you would at a rock concert (I've seen this trend that dancers don't show appreciation for musical talent in their quest for the next dance)
