I had a plesantly eventful night last night!
Just thought Id share it with you all :D

I had my first lesson in Swing :D I learnt enough to be able to dance a full dance at the social afterward (great teacher) which I was really pleased with.
I also learnt 2 Step. I found both dances very simple to learn so I was mighty pleased with myself :D

I also managed to teach a guy the basics in Rumba in just one dance, he was an absolute first timer, and he suprised my be picking it up fairly easily. I then saw him teaching his wife the steps over in the corner, was very cute to see!
But what pleased me most was....he asked me how I get my hips moving! Why did that please me you ask? Well because I wasnt consciously trying to get my technique right for a change

I danced so much my legs are sore today

I also did something Im reconsidering now.... I signed myself up to start my Standard/Modern bronze medal

That's excellent ShyDancer! Though why are you reconsidering going for your Standard Bronze? Are you taking on too much?

It's good to hear that you're making the most of your dancing, ShyDancer!

At first, it can kind of be quite overwhelming--and you feel like you need to do everything. That urgency goes away as you begin to realize that this will be a part of your life forever, that it's not all of a sudden going to blow away, and that you don't have to do everything right away.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by your own choices, you can always cut back a little--get it more under control, and maybe deal with some of the SO issues you were talking about. Once you've figured out more clearly how all of this will fit in your life, you'll feel better about what you decide to do.

Above all, make sure you're having fun.

Thanks guys :D

Just to clarify..I dont feel like id be taking too much on :D :D The reason Im reconsidering the 4th medal is because this studio is nowhere near as good as one of the others Im at in regards to the teaching level.
Last week I watched their final preparation class before their bronze medal exams this past weekend,(Latin) and I was taken aback by the low standard they were at, their routine at best, was only half as long as mine and the technique was...well terrible, some were stiff as a board and this one girl was flapping about like a flag in the breeze
I would have thought the teachers could have pulled her aside fot 10 minutes and helped her out a little or suggested some private lessons to help her out. It almost seemed like they didnt care about technique at all...
On the flip side though, their social night is the place I have the most fun.

ShyDancer - I have been able to observe people going for the same level of exam that I am, and some of them just don't have a great technique. I guess it depends on the dancer and whether the instructor thinks they have enough to go for the exam. My instructor is training me to get A, A+, but some only just want to pass and that's it.

Maybe this is the difference you are observing?

I see what you are saying and I do agree with you, I see people in my class with bad technique but the teachers try their best to get them looking reasonable.

As for just having enough to pass the exam... thats probably where I have my issue actually.
I dont want to "have enough" knowledge and technique to pass my exam, I want to pass it because Im the best I can be at Bronze level. I know some people dont and thats cool, but I just think that its too basic for me over.

I know what you mean. When originally discussing my program with my instructor he asked me what do I want to aim for - passing the exam or getting the best marks I can get. I told him that I have never just "passed" anything in my life. Though I may not want to be "the best" I want to do the best that I can do.
