Top Competition Organizers

Just curious...who would be considered to be the top organizers in the USA and World. I know no list would be complete without Sam Sodano. Who else?

Well, it depends on what you mean by "top". I haven't been to a zillion comps, but of the ones I have, I thought Eddie Ares and Nancy Senner did a GREAT job in Hotlanta, Eddie Simon does a great job in NY, and Jean Marc and David R. do a great job with theirs, even thought it's completely off the radar. The atmospheres have been truly wonderful and the people who worked (volunteered) them were terrific. In fact, I make it a point to e-mail them afterwards and let them know what a great job they did because I think feedback is key in making it great next year, too.

I'll make a big shout out to Rex Lewis and Stephan & Denise Krauel. They organize the San Francisco Open and the Holiday Ball and Dance Camp, and this year will be taking over the International Grand Ball.

If you're looking for Who's Who...you probably can find that under the ndca.org events section.

Some of the ones I know - Mary Murphy for Holiday Dance Classics in LV, Debbie Avalos for California Open in Irvine, CA, Wayne Eng for Emerald. Those are all popular West Coast comps, in addition to the ones that Laura mentioned in San Francisco. Stephan & Denise Kraul & their co-organizers (I thought Rex was the co-host for SF Open and Nadia Eftel was the co-host for Holiday Ball?) really do a great job for SF Open & Holiday Ball. For Amateurs, I'd say SF Open is heaven! Well contested in all levels. Last year, we got Craig/Katya, Andrea/Erica, Basil/Sarika showing up for the Champ division!

In Florida the big name is Michael Chapman- He organizes the Millennium (www.m2dance.com) and the Florida Superstars Dancesport (www.floridasuperstarsdancesport.com) This year Millennium was named one of the 5 top events in the nation with over 7,000 pro-am entries and amateur and pro competitors from around the US, Italy, Russia, Canada, and more (which is huge for an event in FL that isn't the USDSC). Each night lasted until atleast 1am and the shows were incredible featuring Victor da Silva and Hanna, Jonathan and Katusha, Sergey and Elena, and the Wendy Johnson latin show. It really was an incredible event and everyone should add it to their competition calendars!
