Train to Blackpool

Or take the airport shuttle bus, which will take you on a leasurely ride along the M25, a.k.a. "the biggest car park in Europe".

Considering Blackpool is Europe's foremost holiday resort (more visitors than the whole of Greece, according to their publicity) it is very difficult to get to. Trains usually stop at Preston and you have to change to the branch line to Blackpool (the North station is the main one: only get off at Blackpool South if you are staying at the holiday camp which is near there). A few years ago I was there at the height of summer and the Blackpool-Preston train consisted of just two coaches, a bit like something out of Thomas the Tank Engine. When we arrived there were enough people waiting on the station concourse to fill two such trains. We got a taxi to Preston which as far as I remember cost 25 pounds. Next week we will be going by bus from Bristol, which necessitates a change and a long wait at Birmingham. It's worth it when you get there though.

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, surely they jest? It certainly gets visitors for conferences and dance festivals, but hardly a holiday resort. It's where people go to get drunk for stag and hen weekends, not exactly a classy place.

Good luck to anyone going by public transport and to everyone dancing. I will have the luxury of my partner driving me there - he hates my driving and I hate him criticising my driving so we have reached a compromise which suits us both :)

From Blackool To London - the best way

Hi everyone,

after Blackpool, on June 3 I plan to travel to London for sightseeing :)

Ryanair is OK but too much hassle with extra charges, and then transport from Sutton Airport to London , extra ...

So far the best train was North West from Blackpool North to Preston and Virgin Train to Euston...all that for British Pounds 62 per person, and trip takes 4.5 Hrs.

Does any of you angels know of a more attractive ( economically ) way to get to London ?

Anyone from London would wish to share a car ride with 2 std. dancers who would pay for petrol ?

Any suggestions ? Any dance-club buses with a free space for 2 leaving June 3 am for London ?

See you in Blackpool !
