Twinkle Variations

Another DVIDA syllabus question. In the bronze American foxtrot, it describes a variation ending for the twinkle (figure 8 ). I've gone through box by box and I can't find any difference between the regular figure and the variation ending. What makes this a variation?

As always, thank you for your help.

I don't have my book with me, but I think the regular twinkle starts and ends wall for the man, and the variation starts DW and ends DW, with the man making no turn throughout.

I'm looking at the latest book. The last 3 steps of Twinkle are broken out as having a variation for both lead and follow. I don't see any difference either in the box contents for last 3 steps of regular or variation. If anyone figures out difference, please post here so can correct in my book.

What is the date on your book pruthe?

August 2006 version, which I think is latest. I did look on DV web site and there are corrections listed for some parts of this bronze smooth manual, but no correction listed for Foxtrot Twinkle variation. Maybe we should let them know about this?

Another DVIDA thread! Okay, so I got out my manual. :)

The differences I see for the lead in the variation are:
  • The variation begins F DW
  • On step two the foot position is RF diagonally forward
  • Turn is NIL 1-3
  • 4-6 is the same.
The follow does absolutely nothing differently except begins B DW instead of B LOD.

I dug out the video and they do not demonstrate the variation.

The OP seemed to be asking about difference in ending (steps 4 - 6) of regular version and variation of Twinkle. Apparently there is no difference. If so, why is there a listed variation for Twinkle ending? That seemed to be the question. Note: There are separate listed variations for Twinkle beginning (steps 1 -3) and Twinkle ending (steps 4 - 6).

This is of absolutely no use to the OP, but, I believe it is just another DVIDA flub. Also, I remember, distinctly, being taught that the figure begins DW - period; everything else is a variation.

In the previous DVIDA manual (pre- 8/06), the standard figure was, I believe, with no turn for the man commencing and ending DW, and was changed to the facing and ending wall version in the current manual as the standard version. FWIW, the ISTD syllabus starts and ends facing DW, and has variations only for the man turning left with the lady making no turn, as in the standard whisk variations.

There is a difference in the ending. The standard version ends facing Wall, with the variation ending DW.

So the standard version begins and ends Wall, and the variation begins and ends DW, with the man making no turn.

Josh,

Not in the Aug. 2006 version of book I have. Both standard and variation end facing wall for leader. All boxes for steps 4 - 6 are exactly the same for both. Does your version of book say DW? BTW, I have a previous DVIDA bronze smooth book (2000 or thereabouts) and here it does not list a Twinkle variation and figure starts facing DW and ends facing wall for leader.

Thanks.

Pruthe, I've found the answer--I'm looking at the Waltz version, and you're looking at the Foxtrot version which the OP and everyone else has been referring to... my mistake for looking at the wrong dance, though I'm not sure why it would really be different...?
