Without going into too much detail, just in case yours is unique and a lurker sees you/someone with it or something similar, how would you describe your umbrella?

Conservative?
An extension of your personality?
How many do you have?
How many have you lost!

What's the fascination with umbrellas at the moment? Oh, only because it have been raining for the past two days here, will probably have more. The one I have - had for ages - is slightly broken now so I will have to turn my thoughts to getting a new one. Pity. I really like the colour. No, it is not black, blue or red!

When it is raining, I do like to see a mixture of colours/patterns. It brightens up the staple of... black umbrellas, most of which were probably bought just a few seconds prior! (Been there, done that.)

1. I don't have one.
2. People who do have them ought to take a driving test first as they are the only offensive weopan one can legally carry in the street (In the UK)
3. I think the right to defend oneself with a sharp sabre, so one can slice off any umbrella that comes within a foot of one's face.
4. What's wrong with wearing a hat/hood or even getting wet come to that.
5. OK for fishermen and golfers and small children.

rotfl! Spoken like a man though, who doesn't spend hours at the hairdresser! Not even one looks like Juilette Binoche when they have just been in the rain, you know!

I have a black "tote" brand one. Small but a button gets it up and a button quickly folds it. hate struggling with them otherwise. Only lost one tote in the past 4 years...but then I only use umbrellas when it is really coming down. Too much bother otherwise. ;-)

btm, pacion is right on... although i am more likely to eschew umbrellas than most ladies, still, i refuse to be rained upon prior to a social event & thus appear worse than a wet cat as i walk through the door...

i do so love the glamour of long wrapped scarves over umbrellas, tho...

currently mine is bright pink.... I've been trying to find one of the ones that funeral homes (and maybe limo drivers too?) use. They're much bigger so you can fit a couple people under them and they are constructed w/ over-lapping flaps so that the wind can safely exit w/out ruining the umbrella or letting rain in.... anyone know where to find one of these?

Mine's the smallest one I could find. It's just plain black, no bells/whistles/buttons, and I lost the little sleeve for it. I got it specifically for commuting, and I always have it with me when I do. I learned the hard way that trying to just bring my umbrella when it was going to rain was stupid--it never rained when i had it, and it always rained when i didn't.

My dad has one (and it's truly my dad's, not my parents', lol) that I love, and I've never seen anything like it. It's got this beautiful twisted-looking wooden handle, with a brass wrist chain. And the umbrella part itself is red with a gorgeous design on it. He got it years ago when my parents were first married. They'd stopped to help some elderly women change a flat tire on the side of the road. The ladies held the umbrella over him while he worked, and afterwards they gave it to him to thank him.
