Unconventional Dance Music

There's a really great song from the Star Wars (original movie) soundtrack, by the "Max Rebo Band", which is a great Quickstep. If you can find it, it's fab-u-lous!
ooooo...have to tell dh...he loves quickstep and star wars:car:

Heard this one on the radio today and it made me do a double-take: "Crazy" by Aerosmith is a viennese waltz!

That does sound like a fun quickstep!

One dance that hasn't seemed to have had much light in this thread is the (slow) waltz - any further ideas?

I dunno...I was just listening to Barry Manilow's greatest hits album this weekend and heard "Weekend in New England." Didn't realize Barry originally sang it.

Try Cake's "Sad Songs and Waltzes". It's a slow waltz, I believe, and quirky lyrics.

although i'm all for new songs and pushing the envolope i find it annoying when studios try to "update" their song list with new modern songs that "barely" fit the characteristic of the dance they've been chosen to represent.

people go to studios for particular reasons, one of them being that the music is reliable. if i want to push the envelope then i'll go out to a club that plays all sorts of music and play the interpretation game.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm actually in the process of putting together practice CDs...one style of dance per CD and it's taking me months to do this because I'm specifically looking for songs that will fit well with the dance.

(Speaking of which, "The End of August" by Yanni makes a lovely slow waltz.)

The interpretation game gets tiring after the first few songs when out socially...especially if you're with a group of people who have difficulty with that sort of thing.

What about some t.A.T.u songs? Like "Friend or Foe"? "All About Us"? Or "All the Things She Said"? Or any of their other fast stuff?

Anyone else listen to them?

I just love the song "Dirty Diana" by Michael Jackson, but that one is tough to figure out what to dance to it...for me anyway.

It could be a fast rhumba, like maybe american style... I guess...
