Dance!
Has anyone ever tried to understand a dancer?
Seriously, take the time to analyze the inner workings of our minds?
Has anyone ever taken the chance to ask a dancer why....
Why spend 12 hours at the dance studio instead of watching your absolute favorite TV shows,
why take the time to put on hundreds of rhinestones on a costume that you might wear half a dozen times in your life?
Why beat up your body until you have bruises all over?
Why yank your leg past your head so hard that you can hardly walk the next day?
Why listen to a billion differenst songs just to find "that perfect piece of music?"
Why travel long distances, share beds in hotel rooms the size of a closet? Why go to the studio everday when it's bright and sunny instead of going to the beach? why pressure yourself to remember a million dances and be expected to be perfect every time you perform? Why put on fake eyelashes with glue that rips your real ones out? Why do you tape your costume onto your body?
Why do you wear half a sock on your foot? and what's with these cut off sweat pant thingies?
Why do they seem so quite at school and yet have enough presence to light up a stage or be crazy?
Why do they seem to care so much about such minute details....
For anyone who isn't a dancer, its hard to comprehend.
To try and explain anything about competition or dance in general is like talking to a red neck in chinese. They don't have the memories of hanging out with your firends in hotel rooms, or taking classes with brilliant teachers,
or going places you never thought you would get to go,
or being on stage with everyone's eyes on you!

No non-dancer understands why walks (Rumba, Samba, etc.) are so hard. They see you practice for hours, losing your balance, and they ask your teacher "Is it really so hard to grasp?" (Some friends of my teacher - non-dancers - actually said just that, on the subject of samba walks!)

welcome to DF danceismything.....thanks for your excellent post...I might direct your attention to "you know you're addicted thread" probably a few pages back in our forum by now but I think it would verify for you that you have a home here with us...(as someone with a 3 car garage that no cars are allowed in because it makes a nice practice room and who make her family listen to waltz music on long road trips))
