Update on "Non-competitive social shoes" Hunt:

EDIT: If any of you all sell shoes, I'd like to give my bidness to a DF-er if possible.

I have three shoes narrowed down in my mind. I have one based on comfort, one based on "what seems correct", and one that's shiny and comfortable.

Based on non-competing social amateur beginning dancing for three months, street shoe sized US 8 wide, and a sz 8 in the VeryFines (but the toe is a little too long),

I can get those in that wonderful glitzy shiny, the shiny purple, OR the boring nude color (and this heel size, 2.5 works well so far)

Those seem like a safe all-around, but I know they'll never teach me what I need to do with my feet. Social dancing should be correct dancing, too.

These seem a little too "old lady", but they grow on me (this from someone who wants the purple metallic.... hmm..)

My price range is IDEALLY $55, but I can go as high as $75.

I'd go higher to get the plastic heelphyllactics, a shoebag, and one shoebrush (preferably folding, as I'm a klutz).

I know I should just save up and invest in a good pair of Werner Kerns, Freeds, or Supadances, but I'm just not sufficiently familiar with a lot of this yet, so I'm sticking with these easy, light, comfortable, cute "disposable shoes". I've about killed my first pair, and the other two pair (ebay) didn't fit as well as I thought they would. These shoes I have are terminally ill, and I I diagnose them with about two months- if that- to live.

I don't naturally walk well in heels, but I can do really exceedingly (for my aptitude level) well in the ones that I have (pic forthcoming):

My ugly, scary, beaten-up foot in my current (first and only at the moment) shoes (see how long the toe is, d'oh!):

The shoes without anybody uglying them up (well the 3-inch heel ones, but they look the same):

Personally, I like the first pair. But that's just me. My first pair of shoes were Supadance 1518, and I just got a pair of Freed Tina's, so I like the strappy, slender heel look.

I like #2 actually just because they're not shiny and purple :) Actually, I don't know why you wouldn't be able to learn and do proper technique in them. I've seen a few instructors wear them when they teach and they definitely were doing proper technique in them...

If you're simply social dancing, I don't see why you shouldn't go for maximum comfort. I wear jazz shoes social dancing and I'm still able to dance properly in them...

I'd go for the purple ones...but that's mainly because I suffer from a severe case of "Ooh! Shiny!" syndrome.

oops, totally ignored the original question  ....

i'd go for the 1st one but in the boring nude colour - purple is a little bit hard to pull off if you change your outfit all the time.

Nahhhh..... It can just be your personal fashion statement. ;) Everybody needs a little bit of eccentricity in their lives....

Ok, y'all are TONS of help on the color, LOL :P

If Tasche still has her store, I think I'm going to buy one metallic purple, one nude, and one silver if ebay's kind to me this week.

Ebay has NOT been kind lately though, which is why I'm thinking of finding another place to set up shop.

PS  : Thanks, Lynn! I have ugly boxy feet- I didn't know what they'd do when I tried the shoes on. That particular pair has been really comfortable, for sure. They don't make exactly that kind any more I don't think.

I'm hoping to buy from someplace other than ebay. I hate to give the Furor my money, and it sin't fair that sellers have to pay not only out the nose, but lip service to them, too.

Well, I've thought a lot, and have decided to go with my stability and comfort over "what's right".

I'm going for the two-inch heel lace-up "sneaker-lookin' jobber", a pair of the cute strappy thin heels (Silver), just because I really like them, and can actually move around in them, and I found two more pairs of "proper shoes" I liked, too:

Can you see the method to my maddness? One comfy pair, one dressy-comfy pair, one "meh" pair, one dressy "eh" pair, I think. Did I do the math right? Not sure. Ah, well, now you see what I mean.

My foot is "short" I think. When I get a size 8, there's enough width, but too much length on the bottom of my shoe (as was pictured), and when I go with a 7.5, my arch and balls (yikes... that didn't sound good) are cramped, but I COULD have enough length were it not for the cramping/scrunching.

Hopefully, the two pictured will solve this problem. They are wide widths, so I'm going to try them in 7.5 instead of 8. They're closed toe, though, so I don't know if the length of the shoe will have any relevance. I still might chicken out and go for the eights.

I like those shoes though. I think I'm getting some tan sandals too, just for good measure. Granted, this will be a gradual process- unless I win the lottery

Those shoes are too big for you. You don't want there to be so much space between the end of your toes and the end of the shoe. It makes a really big difference when you're wearing ones that your toes come to the very end (I actually buy them so my toes hang over a bit).

I'm trying to figure out how to achieve that AND have my fat arches crammed in there right. Wonder if I just duct-taped my feet... hey, they'd be shiny, at least!
