USBDA dress code question

For the first time, we will be competing at a comp that follows USBDA dress code rule strictly. Okay, this is annoying because I have to figure out what I am allowed to wear for syllabus. :?
<I am so used to doing NDCA where you can wear anything, or collegiate where no one cares, either......>

I read the rulebook online, and wasn't able to find any information about the length of skirt other than in the preteen section where it specifies the the minimum length is 4 inches above knees with maximum being knee length.

My question is, is there any limitation on the length of skirts for adults in latin and standard? It says that the splits on the skirt should not be above knees except for smooth. Does this imply that the skirt also has to be at least knee length?

I have leotrads that come with skirts (like those often worn by preteens and juniors). The skirt is about knee length. I am wondering if I can use those for syllabus 6 dance since there will be no costume change and I obviously can't wear my long standard practice skirt.

I have never heard of any skirt length restrictions for sullabus at USABDA comps.. I believe you should be fine..

standardgirl, you'll be fine in any length skirt for syllabus. (I myself wouldn't wear a super-short skirt in syllabus standard. Um, I probably wouldn't wear a skirt while competing anytime, actually.)

thank you everyone for helping. :)

so, there is no limitation on the length of skirt, but the splits cannot be higher than the knees for standard, correct?

standardgirl, just wear a practice outfit and you'll be fine... there is no big deal about costuming in syllabus as long as you don't wear a gown with stones on it...

stuff I've seen you practice in would be perfectly fine...

totally agree. you have some nice practice clothes

The rule about the splits is confusing, and I pointed this out to some USA Dance officials, but it still is written the way it is. In sewing terms, a "split" skirt is like gauchos or coulottes: very full flowing pants that are as full as a skirt. A "slit" is when a seam or other opening is made starting from the hem and going up toward the waist. It is unclear to me what is really meant by the USA Dance rule. One person told me it was written the way it was to keep Standard dancers from wearing "pants" outfits like JoAnne Bolton or Ruthie Perkins wore a few years ago.

But I agree -- wear a practice-style skirt for Syllabus and you'll be fine. No one is going to check the length of the slit in your skirt. And if they do, tell them what I just said about the world "split" versus "slit" :) :)

That is confusing, and I just checked the word in the rulebook again. It says "split" rather than slit. Slit sounds like what I was referring to though.
I will wear my practice wear except for the 6-dance event which I will wear a leotrad with skirt (no split or slit :D ) or I might change my mind to just wear my latin skirt. That shall do the job.
