USC Football in Ballroom Dance Classes

I think Mr. Leinart is going to quickly find out one thing...;)

While it is only ONE course, in NO way, shape or form will he be able to just skate through it, right folks?!? :) :) It might be a little more physical in nature than he was expecting. *LOL*

I could just imagine what the sports world would think if he were on the bench the first few weeks of football season because his hip-sockets were too sore from ballroom class.

The fifth-year senior will have plenty of time to focus on football in his final season. Leinart is enrolled in one class: Ballroom dancing will fulfill the final elective for his sociology degree, The Los Angeles Times reported.

strange that it fulfills his soc requirement. good lord. so glad i got out of academia.

It says it is an elective to fulfill the requirements for his degree, not that it is a required sociology class.

When I went to college, all dance classes were considered PE. You would think he would have maxed out those quite early, but maybe he had to take a couple different types?

Somehow I think its more likely that any soreness that keeps him benched will come from the football field rather than the dance floor :)

i understood that it was an ELECTIVE, but still say it's weird that it fulfills any requirement. that's just plain wacky.

PE requirement would be fine.. but sociology

Maybe things are different now than when I was in college (a couple decades ago), but most of the bachelor's degrees at my school required a certain number of hours outside the major. At the time, every bachelor's degree (music, sociology, nursing, whetever) required four hours (if I remember correctly) of PE. My ballroom dance class helped fulfill that requirement, making it possible for me to get a degree in an entirely unrelated field.

Likewise, there was a four-hour requirment in "business, technology and applied fields," which a sociology major could satisfy with a wood shop class.

So I don't think it's wierd at all that a ballroom dancing class is helping this football player complete his sociology degree.

From what was written above I understood that ballroom was an elective under sociology major, not that he was studying sociology. Whatever your major, you usually take some totally unrelated classes... I just thought the school classified ballroom as sociology rather than PE...
