Visiting London (Aug. 8-21)

I'm coming to London next week and hope to join a few milongas/practicas.
I'm a young 50ish American lady who lives in Egypt, intermediate level, slender and 5'7" without heels.
Will I find it easy to meet people there, or should I look for a partner to meet up with before-hand?

N.B. I'll be in central London (Bayswater) so I'm looking for the Crypt, the Dome, Carablanca, and maybe Regent's Park (not sure).

I just got back from London stayed off Bayswater and had a good time (except for the rain every day)
The best venue on Saturday night is the Crypt hands down. A lot of people that liked the Crypt raved about Carablanca but I missed it...boo hoo

Corrientes had its final milonga for the season last week so scratch them off your list.

The Rojo y Negro milonga is on Thursday evenings at Latvian House, near Queensway walking distance from Bayswater. Nice venue but mostly beginners if you gotta dance it’s worth the walk.

Everyone talks about Negracha at wild court. It’s crowded hot unfriendly and you will proably sit all night without getting asked to dance. wouldn't recmmend going

Visit this web site for step by step directions to all the milongas in London…..

I agree with all the comments above.

If you can get to Regents Park it is a pleasant experience if the weather is good and you are not used to outdoor dancing but it gets very crowded. Check out The Tango alfresco website for details.

Wednesday night at The Dome is popular but you can get a bit of a Negracha experience although it is not as crowded.

On Sunday night try 33 Portland Place, it is a lovely building but the dance experience can be a bit hit and miss.

If you are sightseeing at all and thinking of going to Cambridge, plan that visit for a Tuesday or Thursday and then go to the Milonga at St Pauls on Tuesday or La Falena at the university social club on Thursday. Although not as big as The Crypt the dance experience will be similar. Cambridge has its own website.

Thanks everyone, for the tips -- actually, I'd read your threads about your visit last month,HB, and already have my dates and venues lined up.
So now I suppose I'll just take my chances and hope for some dances!
