Web-site for WIDE Tango or Ballroom shoes?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and to Argentine Tango. I need to find dance shoes for my very wide (EEE) foot. Any suggestions of web-sites to search? Info will be appreciated.

I have wide feet. My current solution is to use black scotch tape on the bottom of a pair of comfortable normal shoes. The only really wide dance shoe I've found is the Aris Allen swing cap-toe dance shoe. They come in black and white.

I bought a pair, but I don't use them much anymore; they are too stiff for me, and raw leather sole is a little fast for the dancing I normally do.

Also, welcome to Dance Forums!

I dance tango in a pair of Aris Allen (tango) shoes, and found that it took a while to lose the stiffness, but they are now lovely and comfortable and the raw leather sole is just perfect for tango (now that it is 'worn in'). If the heel was leather, and not plastic, they'd be perfect!

If it works for ya, awesome!

I've been moving away from shoes with heels though. I like being closer to the ground. I've been doing the minimalist shoe thing in my everyday walking, and I think it's made my feet stronger.

This is dangerous advice for those who are aging and who isn't? As the heel thins with age we are vulnerable to a condition called Plantar Fascitus (sp?). This condition is quite prone to occur in dancers also and very painfull. Only a good arch and heel will help protect a man from this problem... the same goes for the woman but I have no experience there.

Hi, there is a site for this already which sells tango shoes and most of their tango shoes have wide option. It is called VERY TANGO on verytangostore.com

Hi Arturo, welcome to DF!

Basically you will not need specialized dance shoes for tango. Any dance shoe will work, also dance sneakers. This said you should start dancing first and look for outstanding shoes later.

If you will not find any tango shoes for your foot width at all, you should think of hand mades shoes.

One of the most famous tango shoe maker in the world is Necmi Usta of Istambul/Turkey. His homepage is currently off-line. But you can order his shoes at http://binicideri.com/alisveris/index.php?main_page=page_3
