It seems that one of our members has taken the big leap. It's buried in another post, and I thought that kind of news deserved it's own thread. So, newlywed, please share the details!

"It was on a dark and wintery night..."

It wasn't me!

(I wonder how many "it wasn't me!" this will attract before the real person identifies/re-identifies his/herself   )

Well it sure as heck wasn't me.

Besides, the person mentioned in this thread is probably too busy with their new marriage to post in DF. Give them a day or two ... or two hundred! :D

That would be ME!

yup... we ran away to Hawaii and got married Friday March 11th.

a beautiful sunrise wedding bare foot on the beach. pictures to follow once we receive them from the photographer.

we've been planning this for 3 months but kept it a secret. we didn't want to run into complications (people wanting to throw parties for us, join us in Hawaii, suggest what we should do).

it was perfect. exactly what we wanted. we were a little worried because it was windy and rainy the first 2 days we were there but Friday morning the weather broke, the winds died, the clouds parted and the sun appeared in all its glory.

its was just the two of us, the officiant, and the photographer. the colors were white and salmon. she was wearing a white sarong with a salmon sarong undereneath. i had on white linen pants with a silk salmon shirt.

it was a beautiful day. we drew a heart in the sand, stood in it and kissed. got a picture of it. we plan on going back to that very place in years to come and draw more hearts.

Congratulations!!!!!

And congratulations for doing it the way you wanted to. Too many people give in and do their wedding the way other people want them to.

On the marriage! :D :D

Wedding bells for me next month. Did you know I taught my father to Waltz for the father/daughter. ;) I'm very excited for you dTas (especially if it was as exciting and my wedding is shaping up to become).

Congrats!

Wow! Love is in the air.....

dTas ...sounds perfect. No pressure, but we'd *love* to see pictures :)

TT - what's your date??? Big/small? Honeymoon? Spill... :D [/list]

The date is Thursday April 14th. I am getting married here in Pensacola in the oldest standing church in ALL of Florida (I love the history of the place). The wedding is going to be fairly small...right around 50 people. I am wearing simple strapless white satin (no bows, lace, ribbons, etc) with a full skirt and no train. Perhaps picture something Audrey Hepburn would wear. I hate dresses that look like cakes and despite the fact that I am 27 (but don't look it), dresses with trains made me look like a little kid playing dress-up. My colors will be burgandy and silver with the bridesmaids wearing delicate chiffon, empire waisted with thin straps. I do not (and would never) have any children in the wedding party.

The floral arrangements will be deep red roses and ivy. My hair will be up and I have an elbow length veil. I will wear pearls (real ones, just got them) and satin gloves. My garter I emported from England and it is blue with a silver horseshoe on it. I also imported a sixpense to put in my shoe.

The wedding will be traditional with traditional vows. No special songs, readings or other nonsense. I will have live musicians...a flutist and pianist (the acoustics in this building are awesome).

The reception is at a small auditorium with hardwood floors. Will be serving hordoerves, champagne and punch. The cake is a simple three-tiers with white cake top and bottom and chocolate in the middle. White icing and roses adorn it. My first dance..."Heaven" by Yanou (acoustic piano) and my father/daughter waltz will be "Sunrise, Sunset" (for lack of a better waltz selection).

Honeymoon...don't know. He and I have been together for so long I don't feel the need. We may take off for a couple of days...perhaps go snorkeling in the keys or go to Atlanta or New Orleans. He has also mentioned Vegas. Although I was born there, I don't forsee much romantic coziness in the casinos and lights. I would LOVE to go back to Niagra Falls (which I consider one of the most beautiful places on earth) or perhaps San Francisco. We will probably take a more extensive honeymoon later in the year.

That's about the long and short of it. I'm stressed as I have a bunch of people coming from all over the U.S. and not much money to make it 100% fabulous. The wedding will be fabulous, the reception has been cause for worry.

As one who lives 45 minutes away, I thank you for the compliment. :D

Have you been to Niagara-on-the-Lake? It's very much a wine region, but the town itself is very quaint and picturesque. You could stay at a pretty little B&B overlooking the Niagara River or one of the gorgeous parks and shop through the pretty little stores. Niagara Falls is only about a 20 minute drive away along the Niagara River and you're in the perfect time of Spring where everything is fragrant and blooming.

I'm sure it will all work out perfectly. It sounds like it's going to be gorgeous. :) Congratulations!
