Hi everyone, I went to my first WCS dance last night - it was good. Before i get started I'll briefly introduce myself.
My name is Martin and I live in Portland, OR. I have been dancing salsa avidly for over five years now. When I first started salsa I wanted to learn WCS, and I always said - I'll learn WCS just as soon as I get a little better - I just need some more time with salsa
so anyways, five years later I have finally picked up WCS.
I took four classes with Chris No Bones Jones at the Viscount dance studios here in Portland. And then I decided it was time to go out
I really enjoyed the night. Its a lot different from our ECS scene here. The ECS is much bigger, however, when you go to an ECS swing event you will see a lot more people - but there will only be a concentric group of dancers that know how to dance and that only dance with themselves. And the rest of the dancers barely know the basic step. I gave up on that scene after about three months.
But last night I went WCS dancing and just about everyone knew how to dance! It was great! I danced about nine songs. I only asked ladies for three songs - the other six songs ladies asked me. This is a pretty novel concept coming from the salsa world. Definately pretty cool.
So anyways, I had a really good time and I really look forward to going back again next week. And yes, I am going to continue taking classes with Chris Jones - he's a great instructor and very patient
