What dance songs do you hate?

Any song that mentions a completely different dance in the lyrics! Argh!!!

YEEEEEEESS....

A double annoyance for me is what everybody calls "That Shall We Dance Song" - It is called Santa Maria by Gotan Project and it is a MILONGA. They even SAY IT in the dance, and it actually IS a milonga, but everybody dances American Tango (badly) to it. :headwall:

I'm really surprised nobody has mentioned ChaCha Slide yet. I hate that thing.

Hybrid songs, songs that you can dance two or more styles to (ie. hustle songs that you can also dance cha-cha to or bolero songs while you're dancing rumba). My instructor likes to put those on because she feels somewhat guilty about hogging up stereo time during lessons. There's several private lessons going on at the same time in our studio. I just can't get into the music with those songs. I've to set her straight on this. Once I've even joked to her to put "The way you look tonight" by frank sinatra on while we dance the waltz.

At the risk of sounding like a Scrooge, I can get a little crazy at studio holiday parties where Christmas-friendly or Halloween-friendly ballroom songs are played. Sure, there are some Christmas carols that work well for ballroom, but there are some songs that seem to have been twisted to make them work.

I totally agree! A teacher who used to teach at my studios thought it was funny to play as many Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas songs as possible- Oy

If this is the one I'm thinking, I love it for international tango...I can see how it would be pretty terrible for american though, not the right character at all.

Gotta say, i disagree. :-)

I don't know about the difference in "character" between american and international tango, but I find it works nicely for either one.

Or hustle. Or cha cha. Don't like it as a rumba.

As for milonga...I actually prefer it as straight-up tango.

To each their own!

Or tango argentino.

I could even make a bachata out of it...

I can't stand it when they use "Macarena" for a Samba and I really don't like the song "Give Me Something Fried" which is a Jive. It's got a great beat to it but I hate that I have to stop doing what I'm supposed to be doing just to listen to how WIERD the lyrics are...oh and then there's another Jive which goes "let me get tipsy all night long, let me get tipsy you can't go wrong" (or at least I think it goes like that)....GAH!

Amen, sistah!

Mambo(?) Italiano

"Mambo Italiano" is my signal to leave the dancefloor. Can't stand it.
:)

You know, every year for the past three I've threatened to take it out of our playlist. Then I mention that to some people and they go, "but we loooove Mambo Italiano." Then I leave it in. What are you going to do?

Ignore them?

Life is not a democracy?

Lie, and say that you've gotten way too many complaints that outrank their love of it?

Accidentally-on-purpose lose that cd?

I can think of so many things...
