A few nights ago I did something quite funny
I had gone out to meet a girlfriend in the afternoon; not prepared to go salsa dancing, I was in my compfy old tracksuit pants.
Then I got a call from my dance partner (whom I rarely see these day coz he's got a girlfriend) who wanted to go dancing AND needed a lift. The place where we were going is quite posh, and not too far from him. It wasn't worth my while to go home, get changed and come out......
 So I had to buy something to wear pronto  !
It was 5.45pm on a Wed night, the only thing (besides K-Mart etc.) is this kinky lingerie shop....(and they do have salsa friendly items)
I ended up getting a stretchy little backless mini dress in LIME GREEN (very Hollywood) as it was the only REALISTIC choice.
Strangely I looked good & felt good in it.
And more strangely, being in a showy outfit, I was doing more showy stuff on the floor than I would normally 8)
I had an absolute ball......all the guys did as well I was sure....coz they were all waiting to see if my dress would ride up any higher.....
(sorry to disappoint you, guys. )
Does any of you out there have funny/crazy story re dance clothes to share....?

This past Tuesday, my outfit for swing dancing consisted of:

1. Army surplus boots with "Nightmare Before Christmas" Jack shoelaces
2. Jeans, one ripped knee, slightly ripped crotch.
3. Bondage belt with 2 pairs bondage straps crisscrossed in back.
4. Black Jolly Roger t-shirt.
5. Black mesh shirt over that.
6. Elbow length palm-only glovelettes with buckles.
7. Thumb rings w/ cool spinny middle part.
8. Spike bracelets.
9. Bondage collar.
10. Biker jacket w/ pins.

For fun, I sometimes where dress pants w/ suspenders, button-down, vest and tie.

foursquare
(For dancing, of course, shoes get changed and all the pointy stuff and rings come off.)

Not really fun stuff, but . . . talking about looking good and feeling good???

Clothes, I feel, DO make you dance differently. In a matter of one week, I went to a very informal wedding reception, wearing no dance-type clothes at all. Regular slacks, street shoes, and a shirt tucked into the slacks. I felt very off and had a hard time dancing.

The very next weekend, we went dancing, and I wore my baggy jeans and dance sneakers, and un-tucked shirt. I was a totally different dancer.

Yes, I know this is all in the mind, but???

Usually I wear blank pants when we go social dancing. One hot summer evening we went to a social dance and it was just too hot to put on black pants, so I wore my white pants made out of very light fabric.
You would have thought I was the princess that night. I got asked to dance at least twice as much as usual. Was I more visable? I don't know, but I swear I had a neon sign that said "dance with me" because I danced non stop that night!!! I think I'll wear them more often! :D

Some of us are lucky enough to have seen "how well" you fill those pants out

Let us know ladies.

Okay..... This is just me, but I'm a sucker for a black shirt. I prefer black T-shirts. Any kind will do, but I like the slinky cotton blend ones they sell for Latin dance exhibitions. (ha! I can give you websites, guys, if you want. ) There's nothing like it. I've seen thin guys. Tall guys. Portly guys. Muscular guys. All in those shirts, and every one looked good to me. :D If you don't have the black dance T-shirt, almost any black shirt will do.

Just my opinion, mind you.  :D

Ok, this might just be my taste :)
I LOVE to see guys who can dress as 'gangsters' ie. pinstripe suits (white?), two-tone shoes, one of those hats etc. to go salsa dancing!
But to get away with it, you have to have the personality to pull it off I think

One of my all-time favourite salsa dance partner dresses just that, and he has a nice showy (but super smoooooth) dance style to match 8) Some times we have even been known to 'match' each other's outfits (I swear it was NEVER planned!) when we've both turned up in all white (Cuban Santaria) or all black (Mafia suit & Lace)

OK. That was the fashion designer in me sneaking out  !

Oh, I agree with you there, Pygmalion. I LOVE those dance t-shirts :D !

I agree with you there, Vince. I have 'lucky' outfits for dancing as well  ! They work like a charm!

One of my favourite is the all white 'Cuban Santaria' look. Little strappy cotton top, stretch cotton flair pants with one of those white tassled lacy shawls tied around my waist. The tassles fly with your movements 8)

"Dance with me" neon signs for sure :D ! My lucky outfits also have the same effect!

Do you think it's the WHITE being a colour of significance, thus it works on people on a sub-concious level......? :? :P What does everyone think?

I think costumes for dancers and actors work the same way. When you get into your 'costume' you are also getting into your 'character'. 8)

How good we feel in our clothes have a lot to do with how well we perform. Hmmmm :? who said beauty is only skin deep....?
