What makes a dress cost _______?

You can buy a dress from Latino with Swarovski instead of cheaper stones, usually the dress runs between $6-700.

I got my smooth (pictured in avatar) and rhythm dresses from them. I had to sell my rhythm dress because a)I don't have a partner and could use the money and b) it never really fit how I wanted it to, despite having the same measurements as my smooth dress. Both dresses were slightly custom because they were collegiate dresses before the light reflection rule was lifted, so they had no stones and I customized the colors. I also had to pay for significant alterations on the smooth dress because despite asking for a different style, smooth skirt instead of the standard dress, I got a full bodied, multi-layered skirt- I had to have almost 6 feet of fabric removed from the skirt to make it a single layer of under skirt to add just a pop of color like I had asked. Definitely a communication error. If I upgrade to a stone dress though, I will likely still go through them because I just can't afford a "real" dress from a known designer.
 
Aculpulco Paradiso out of Paris does a pretty good job. They even did a return/exchange when I pointed out a color error (I was able to show that it was a computer error on their part and I HAD ordered a different one-the dress was definitely not usable for me with the color they sent!) They have various stoning/non-stoned options and the dress quality is nice.
 
It depends on many things how much a dress costs. Even if it has been mad by the same company, may it looks like same, but they used more or less rhinestones which can incerease the price and it could make it more more expensive. It depends of the rhinestone quality, for example DMC stones or Preciosa or Swarovski stones. Very very big difference, also they can use similar textiles for the dress but big difference in price. So when you buy a used Ballroom, Latin, Smooth, Rhythm dancewear, you need to ask for the stones brand. You can see if the use high-quality stones or chineese ones, as the chinese stones are not same as 2 eggs, not soo nicely shining.

Yes, once, and I'm very happy with the dress. It doesn't look like a high level designer gown, but I feel pretty in it. However, I wouldn't recommend trying to make design changes with them. Communication and service with the U.S. rep was excellent, but the tailors in China may not always get the word. I had to change the skirt fabric from the original design to make sure that the dress would be syllabus legal, and they had to make it twice (the U.S. rep caught the mistake before sending it to me). Ended up fine, but would have been a problem if I'd been on a tight timeline.
 
If it doesn't look like a high end designer dress, I probably would not spend any money with them- Ive been thru that stage, of getting Chinese/Korean dresses for less cost- but once you have spent the money for a designer dress, the low end ones just do not cut it. I would rather get a used designer gown than one of these. That being said- I think they are a viable alternative for starting out and with a smaller budget.
 
Bump- the rental places like encore seem like a great resource for used yet pristine dresses that are not out dated. I just got a rhythm dress that I was not even looking for at a great price- and decided to send them 2 of my dresses to consign/rent. Some of their dresses are priced high, but everything is open to negotiation.
