What makes you cringe in tango?

I also seen instructors in Tango trying to make it a career struggle to build sustainable following. They try to be ultra competitive, cunning, ruthless and people don’t like that.
That doesn't work except with, I suspect, young males.
every case of a good community building I’ve seen has been from a woman
Yes. Or there's a woman behind him, if young. Some men also do that - but tend to be older and more experienced.

Actually I the cunning and ruthless I was talking to were women. And those that build while doing it as a side gig were men.

I don’t think you can break it along gender. It is personality and nothing to do with gender.

Probably not! Too small a sample and we draw on personal experience. But personality develops from life perspective, which is shaped by gender. I'd just say that you get different approaches from people who think as partner dance 'leaders' rather than a 'partner'. Unfortunately (my experience! I do!) it seems males/leaders need greater explanation, but, talking to female followers who are learning to lead, it's very different than following - for many reasons. Ditto primary leaders following.

But you do get differing 'business' approaches. Perhaps that's also about how they read the market from their experience and needs.

Whilst it is possible to teach AT solo, I'd say, ideally, it needs a partnership that works together rather than just another person with whom to demonstrate. But, of course, there are also good solo teachers.

responding to a few things out of order

- Women on average just have better interpersonal skills than men. (Doesn't mean they can't also be toxic sometimes.)

- Tango is a very difficult business to scale up by expansion because it depends on personal relationships.

- However normal business principles still apply such as supply and demand, listening to what the customers want, whether you actually have a USP.

- My impression is that many people trying to do tango full or part-time are not paying attention to the above two points.
