What to do now?

I consider myself a pretty bad dancer - but when I go to clubs and bars, it really is a self-esteem booster hahaha. I've figured out that confidence is super important, the look on your face, etc. So I guess I have some basic rhythm - enough to not make me look like an idiot when I dance. But, it gets awkward and boring doing the same thing. Even if I am getting close to a girl on the dance floor, I want to do something more and exciting.

Where can I go from here? What are some (still safe) but more exciting movements that I can move on to? The genre is basically club music - clubs/bars where generally just rap is played.

If you're not game enough to go for classes, then watch lots of video clips or YouTube clips. Watch them again and again and, obviously, if the moment takes you, jump up and try the moves for yourself.

Personally, I'd go for classes (hip hop/funk etc) because even though nobody expects you to dance like Janet Jackson on the dancefloor, the fact is you won't know what is possible until you've jumped in and learned a few moves yourself.

So, just because you learn routines and fancy pants moves doesn't actually mean you have to use them precisely as they're taught, but it does gives you loads more options even if you just tone down what you're learning or incorporate bits and pieces rather than dancing routines! :) You'll have lots more freedom to dance and throw in nice little moves. Besides, you might love it and go even further with the dancing!

Happy dancing,
MS

1) Take some lessons if at all possible
2) A GOOD basic dance is much more appreciated than a fancy-schmancy thing danced poorly - ask the ladies about it.
