What's the Best Thing that Happened to You in 2005?

My sister asked me this last night. I had to really think about it, since I've had a really challenging year. But, truth be told, I came up with one outstanding thing that happened to me this year. I met people. Wonderful people -- all over the place. Everywhere I went. Kind people, thoughtful people. People who were very different externally, but inside just like me. :) (Or vice versa.)

Challenges notwithstanding, I think the world can be a wonderful place.

How about you? What happened good thing(s) happened for you this year?

That's a really, really hard question. I can think of a few things that were really good about this year, but I can't pick one as the best one. Maybe what I now see as something unimportant was actually the best thing that happened to me. But just to mention a few...
Well. I realised I don't suck so much at dancing. I realised I can actually be attractive if I want to. I got over a ridiculous school crush. I made some decisions about some friendships. I made lots of new ones. I danced a couple of incredibly connected dances. I realised how mature I can be. I realised how incredibly innocent I can be. I got admitted in Physics (but for some reason I don't classify this as the best thing, more like a good thing). I DFed a lot; I gained valuable knowledge and got invaluable moral support from my fellow DFers. I cried a lot. I laughed, maybe not as much as I should/could have. I turned 18 years old. ;) I decided I want to move out of my house.
I think these are the top things that happened to me. They were all important. I don't know which was the best.

I started private ballroom lessons with my teacher and I discovered DF and all of the wonderful people who go along with it:notworth:

My highlight for the past year has been starting to dance and enjoying it. I thought I could never dance and I hated going to a place where there was dancing. So I have discovered something new in myself.

You're talking about DF, of course. ;)

I started dancing. (Well, technically, that was 2004, but I got serious in 2005)

Same as fascination. Private lessons, DF, great friends through dance events and competitions...

The best thing that happened to me this year was that, after finally separating from my husband, I found out who my real friends were. :D (I'm talking about 'real life' here, not DF.)

Some "friends" didn't want to know, others went out of their way to help and support me. I'm not going to even begin to tell you everything they did for me, otherwise I'd still be writing this post at the end of January. But it's been a humbling experience. And I believe it's made me become a better friend as a result.

Also (again talking 'real life', not DF), I've now come to a realisation that I'd rather have a small number of true friends than a large circle of acquaintances.

Amen.

As for myself, even though we broke up in June, I'd have to say that my girlfriend (from 2004) was the best thing that happened to me in 2005. She's a remarkable woman and was a great friend and girlfriend. I will always be deeply appreciative of and treasure the time we were together, and will always be thankful for the encouragement, support, and feedback she provided.

That's very nice of you to say this. I hope she knows what you think.

The best things that happened to me in 2005 were the birth of my nephew, finishing grad school, deciding to take private dance classes and meeting someone nice to date.

okay.. alot of things happened to me in 2005. and most of them were very good things, i've got to experience things i've never did before

the best thing happened to me was definately knowing *mya* my best friend ever, we didnt know each others for long time, but i am sure that God has arranged our meeting becuz he knew that if two persons could love each others this much...it would be the two of us..she made me know things bout myself , i never thought i could . i love her to death.

then i got my first encounter with a formula car:D :D :D on a real track (BIC)
this is where my professional career starts.

i've met wonderfull people, every where i went. its like i only pumped into good people.

i've upped with the level of dancing.
got my first ADvertisment i designed published as a print ad.

this is as much as i remember, or could think of.
hope 2006 is better though

That sounds OK! :D

Similar to RhumbaWaltz, I have to say that my nephew is one of the best things that happened to me this year. He turned two not so long ago and that transitioning time from baby to toddler has been and still is a great time/experience. He loves hugging  so now i don't need an excuse when ever I want a hug and he is around  I have also been experiencing life in certain ways thanks to him - climbing, jumping out from behind trees and attempting to do the mad/scary monster thing, suspended wooden step blocks, slides and just generally clambering around with him. It has been remarked on several occasions by onlookers, they are unsure who is having the most fun - my nephew or I!!!

In addition, reconnecting with certain friends with whom contact had been lost, seeing in 2005 with a party with my family (lots of dancing and laughter) and seeing out 2005, welcoming in 2006 with a wonderful friend's family, with... lots of dancing and laughter.

Oddly enough, I can't tell yet. DW and I were talking about this last night: that this particular New Year's didn't seem like much to us because we have so many ongoing activities that, for us, 2006 is going to be the "second half" of 2005. Our house got started in 2005, finally, but we won't know the result of that for sure until it's finished. I've got some big job changes that have been on hold for the past year and won't start happening until near the end of 2006. And several other "ongoing" family activities.

And it'll get better and better. I have a nephew and niece (twins), but they're almost 4. When they were born, I felt a love I had never felt before (though I've always liked kids). They truly give you unconditional love. But right now at their age, it's great to have them only in the weekends :p (alot of work)!
