What's the biggest issue?

I have to do an assignment on an issue in dancing. I'm thinking of doing the exploitation angle, with young girls learning to flaunt their bodies and put themselves at risk from the dances shown in music video's, but there are other things that I could talk about.

Does anyone else have ideas, on this topic or any others issues?

Welcome to DF!

If I was to pick a contraversial issue, I'd pick 'dancer's body image as shaped by popular media'. You can bring in all sorts of angles on that one. We have a couple of threads relating to this, if you are interested I shall find them for you.

The others might have some great ideas too.........

Hmm... I've heard a lot about wily latin male dance instructors(NOT ballroom, but salsa & the like) putting the make on their students, and it's become quite an issue over here in Japan, where people tend to be a bit conservative.

Or how about the sacrifices dancers make? Time, money, energy, etc...

There are a lot of good threads on this forum to get you started. Check out the one on "Partnering with boyfriend/girlfriend for some stimuli!

I'm sure you'll run into SOMETHING that piques your interest! :D

Welcome to DF Sheild Maiden :D

I just want to say that from a ballroom perspective, that its not teaching girls to flaunt their bodies, there are dress regulations for the young girls (juveniles and juniors) .
Also that the costumes worn by competitiors in the Latin need to be tight and showy so that they can be properly judged on technique and body alignment. Its more about flaunting their ability.
But anyone outside the dancing world would not know this, so I guess it could be written from an outsiders perspective.

There are plenty of issues that could be discussed about dancing.
Is there any paticular type of dance that you were after? Because I think it would be hard to address one issue that will cover the broad range of dances.

Hi Sheild Maiden. Long time, no see. Glad to see you're stil part of the DF family. 8)

What kind of dancing are you most familiar with? I ask because that might help narrow down which big issues for you address -- the ones with which you're most familiar are a good place to start.
