What's the name of this song?

Being relatively new at salsa, I find that most of the music sounds the same! There are very few that I would recognize! How long before I can start identifying the songs as "Gee I heard that one before and really like it!"? :?

Not as long as you may be thinking. A matter of months I would say, depending on how fast you get addicted to Salsa...

peachexploration: thanx a lot, you saved my evening :notworth:

Lucretia: this is "the" salsa club in vienna, so if you visit us one day, that's the place to go! you are more than welcome. btw, where are you from?

Handy Site: Song Titles

Looking to complete those gaps in your music collection - the annoying "Unknown" artist or song titles? Is Amazon letting you down? Try here:

http://www.freedb.org/

- a free database with Track titles by artist and CD. Not so handy as Amazon, as it lacks ssound-bites (for the dreaded double-unknowns), but of some use.

Wow. Thanks, CD. 8) Long time, no see. Hope all's well. 8)

All is well - didn't realise that I'd been missed. I've been settling into Seattle (I'm always tempted to write "Se-attling into Seattle". There - now I've done it ;)) The dance scene here is a lot bigger and somewhat more impersonal than the scene I left in Detroit and I'm still developing my group of favourites. All takes time, and consistent appearences . . . which energy and work do not always permit - you know the score, I'm sure.
Anyway, I've sent a list with my entire Salsa colletion to Salsero, who will have someone working on putting it up for everyone's perusal. At the moment, it's just a list of titles and artists, with about 1,500 entries. Maybe, if it's well-received, it may include sound bites, to allow people to identify their favourites by ear, rather than name - but that would be well in the future.

Take care out there, and dance merrily through the holiday season!

It's like anything else, the more you listen, the more you will learn. In a matter of a few weeks of intense listening you will be able to tell the difference between Cuban, Colombian, Puerto Rican, old school 70's NY, etc...plus, you'll soon get to the point where you start developing personal preferences, but don't make the mistake of just listening to that one thing from that point on, keep your mind open.

Vienna, I would not have guessed Vienna. But I don't know much of the language written (German I guess) and the pictures seemed to be from Cuba. I actually believed it was a Cuban Hotel owned by Germans adverised for a German audience

No Vienna is too far from me.....Sweden. For the moment anyhow. But this website helped me to solve some problems I had. I'm trying to perusade our local BIG hotel to freshen up their website AND start up regular salsa evening. I have plenty of pictures and digital videofilm shoot at this place, but I didn't know how to manage the "intangible rights". People does not always appreciate to see themself on film in ads, especially not when they had to much to drink and rest in the arms of wrong person (on the dancefloor I mean  )

This website had a good solution - blur all faces. Even the guys in the bar is blured out (perhaps the view you have after a few hours in this place and heading to the bar again  )

Is it a good place for Salsa?

yes it is, and I think it's rather unique in one way. They have open and play Salsa every night during the weekp. At least I've never come across a similar location. Usually they all had open only on some days during the week. (Though I've been to better venues, but that's another issue). It's somehow like my second living room

I think the original Floridita, the famous one is in Cuba, Havanna. That's the bar where Hemmingway stayed a lot of times and where they are famous for their daiquiris.

Vienna isn't that far away from Sweden, you don't have to walk, you could catch a cheap flight down 8)
Btw, I'm also half Scandinavian, my mom is danish, though I've never danced Salsa in Denmakr yet, so I don't know any places there.

I would be very curious to look at the website you made, when you have finished it.

greets.

I totally missed this until just now...

Your experience sounds like mine, CD. It'll happen for you soon enough out there. Hey, IMHO, it's a way better alternative than too smal of a scene.

Plus, now you get to go back home to Detroit and have all your favs tell you that they missed you... 8)
