What's your motivation?

I had this question in a college class, so I thought I'd post here for discussion.

What motivates you when you're discouraged (or just tired and don't feel like dancing)? What do you learn about yourself in the process?

Personally, when I don't feel like dancing, I help out the club in other ways - putting together sponsor lists, teaching, decorating, etc. That way I don't miss out on everything else good about dancing - the determination, dedication and creativity it lets me have. Dance gives balance to my life so that I'm not just all about work, all about school, all about home, or all about dance. I'm directing my energy and effort in a positive way and expressing myself in ways that I otherwise would not be able.

Since I'm not really active as far as volunteering to help the local scene, if/when I'm feeling burnout, I'll just take a minor break from it all. I just did this over the holidays, and now I'm back again.

If I'm feeling blah about just doing the same stuff over and over again, I'll go take a workshop or two. Or some other creative thing. Or again, just take another break.

I feel lucky in that this is a spread out scene so if I feel like all I'm seeing are the same people/same dramas, I can go out on a different night to a different club, and not have to deal with it all.

Taking a break is good. People get burned out sometimes. Try your other hobbies that you've been neglecting. You'll start missing dance in no time and want to get back to it!

I might practice the basics for 10 minutes to stay in it but if I don't feel like it I don't. When my class comes around I feel clumsy and this motivates me to start practicing again.

I had a couple of days recently when i realy didn't want to go practice. But as I am pretty competative I just reminded myself that the competition probably didn't take today off so I couldn't afford to either. Usually by the time I've been there a while the mood has passed and I'm glad I went.

I'm with tj; I take a break. It actually serves as time to reflect on where I'm going and what I've done, dance-wise. I can also catch up on some bills, and that ALWAYS feels good!

I get all moody, then I focus on my school work. In 4-5 days, I'm already missing it and can't wait for Saturday to come! Usually, a good party or a dance with my teacher is enough. Makes me feel I can actually dance.
