When the end is in sight..

Hi around,

have you ever got the feeling that your dancing time may be over soon, cause your knees, feet or what ever wont play along any more?

And what would you do if it actually comes true?

-Stay within the community but sitting at the bar?
-Find a new job within the community as DJing, lecturing, making music?
-contributing as a virtual dancer in dance forums, blogs and other internet stuff?
-Break up completely as not to be reminded any more?

Yes I have , but then I think back of why I started and that reason is what will keeps me going past all the pain. I could never sit out when the music is playing.

I don't think it is in sight for me but my body certainly feels the toll more than I wish..and I know from my usual approach to life, that if I can't do it, I won't likely expose myself to it ...

As a social dancer, I'm not facing that question myself yet, but ... I know people who are.

Some have chosen not to dance any more, and we miss them. Some still come to the dances and sit on the sidelines a lot, getting up to dance only when they can mange it. Some try to dance beyond their current abilities.

From observing my friends, I think I will continue to dance as long as I am physically able. I will try, however, to be careful about how my dancing affects other people. There's a fine line ... I truly enjoy certain dances with my older friends and I am happy to accommodate them ... and physically support them where necessary ... but some dances might be better left to those who can do them with full energy.

I certainly won't try to teach when I can no longer properly demonstrate the movements.

When I'm much older I'll be going out in style on the dance floor! No bones or wobbly knees are going to stop me from participating.

My obiturary will read: Popped his clogs on the dance floor moonwalking to Billie Jean

I say all this now but the old me would probably whack me over the head with my impending walking stick

This has not been an issue with my dancing, but it's a different matter with certain venues. I may well take a break from the Friday ballroom scene here as I feel what's happening on those nights has not been worth it as of late. The dances held on Saturdays are much better; WCS and ballroom and some new things have started which I hope will continue.
