When to call the organizers

FIXED:
"It'll all work out."
"How? How will it all work out?"
"The scrutineer will fix it. Scrutineers can fix anything."

:inlove: ;)

So Joe, what do you think - would it be out of line for affected dancers to contact the organizers and ask to please consider a switcheroo?

Also, I've noticed that events are danced in order of proficiency. Newcomer events, then bronze closed events, followed by closed silver events, etc. Is there a reason for this? Thank you to all who respond - I am enjoying learning more!
I believe that this encourages people to progress, so that they can sleep in.

I actually have a theory I'm now kicking around: it's easier on the judges because they don't have to flip evaluation modes constantly. After watching gold competitors for a full round the first newcomer couple you see should be a little jarring before you adjust - it's probably less taxing on the judges to see the same proficiency range heat after heat after heat until the next proficiency's time.

Just e-mailed the organizer of our local comp, stating that while it wasn't my intention to compete this year, I was offering to volunteer and support the community... and she asked why I wasn't competing.

As I'm a coward, I blamed it on my bank balance... but I really wanted to say that I haven't enjoyed the comp the last two years, and, giving it a second shot as they changed locations, competed entirely uncontested last year (even in latin!), was put on an incredibly crowded floor with a bunch of much more senior ladies that don't move during standard scholarship - which was scheduled in the middle of a horrible mix of championships and singles in the middle of the afternoon - meaning I couldn't show what I can do, and had a huge fight followed by a more reasonable discussion with pro that he may have overcommitted himself at that comp making it no fun at all for his more advanced ladies, following which he decided this comp will be primarily for the compete-once-a-year types, and walked away generally feeling like pro-am was just being offered to pay for the amateur side of the competition given the disparity in the treatment. I did not feel that laying all that on her was wise, and also did not break the news that the other scholarship level student and a serious solver/gold lady are also not going to attend... pro can share that if he chooses.
