Where should I look for a pro partner?

I am a mostly independent ballroom instructor in desperate need of a partner for competitions and performances. Where should I look for a partner?

I've already posted on many dance partner websites and forums (including dancepartner.com and craigslist) with no success. I've posted notices in local dance studios and gone social dancing, but only found good amateur partners.

Anyone got any success stories

Might I suggest contacting dance schools in your region who prepare students for professional exams, and for qualified teachers for additional qualifications. It is the nature of professional training that it is undertaken solo, and many students would be glad of teaming up with another experienced dancer, and may be at precisely that point in their own dance development where they are very open to new things and wanting to improve their own dancing.

It is very frequently examiners (and other senior members) who prepare candidates for professional exams, and they are usually quite approachable in such things because they always have an eye out for the opportunity to recruit another instructor for coaching work, in the future, if not immediately.

I have a friend, now in his 80's, who never did find a pro competitive partner. He became a well known and highly respected judge and coach. In today's world, I think the answer is willingness to relocate yourself for a partner. The minute we tie ourselves down to a geographical area the odds of finding a partner go down. I am always meeting people at dance camps and competitions who are looking for partners to come to them. Other pros find promising students and bring them up. This is an imperfect world. Best wishes.

You need to post your location..or area..

Do you mean post it here? It's San Francisco, California, if anyone's interested.

And, yes, I have found that willing to relocate is key. But I'm not, so I guess I'll just have to keep looking.:friend:

Spread the word among the pros and their coaches.

This is a tough region to find partners as there are several female pros that have been seeking partners for a while. Maybe consider trying with pros who are doing pro/am or newer instructors working their way up through the studios.
