Who knows a good waltz?

My fiance and I are getting married in June. Our families do not know that we have started taking dance lessons. We are planning on putting together a nice waltz as our first dance, and hopefully it will be a wonderful surprise for everyone! We just have one problem-- we don't have a song to dance to! It's kinda hard to start putting a dance together when we don't have music! :? So, I turn to the wonderful DF crowd. What are some good waltzes to use as a wedding dance. Any suggestions anybody? Please? :D

I'm not an expert at weddings, but I think the following sound pretty nice for a wedding waltz:

Theme from Cider House Rules (I like this one best)
The Inner Light
Morning Light

I'm sure someone else has better suggestions. I've tried. ^^;

Among the many I love to play and dance to:

Is It You (Theme from Shrek)
Rainbow Connection (yes, the one with Kermit singing)

Fascination (Nat King Cole)
May I Have This Dance (Ann Murray)
Dance Only With Me (Perry Como)
It is You (Dana Glover-this is fast, consider having it slowed down)
Spring
The Summer of Our Love

The theme for Romeo & Juliet! :D

I think it's official name is "A time for us" it's amazing.

And then "Musseta's waltz" by either Puccini or La Boheme. It's from the movie moonstruck. It is also very good.

I like Nocturne by Secret Garden. They have another song on the CD that is a great Waltz.
I think the "May i have this dance ?" by Anne Murray is a great song for a wedding.

"You Light Up My Life" by Leann Rimes (very wedding appropriate!)
Lovers' Waltz by Jay Ungar is a pretty instrumental piece.

I kinda specialize in collecting waltzes; I have hundreds - all kinds, all speeds. What kinda waltz you guys gonna do - fast turning, cross-step, slow turning, an American slow-as-molasses-in-January snoozer, or...??

The hands-down favorite wedding waltz in these parts is one of the ones Ashley recommended, Jay Ungar & Molly Mason's The Lovers Waltz. It's about 110 bpm, perfect for a mellow cross-step, but not much for turning. Let me know whatcha got in mind, and I'll recommend some of my favorites.

I have to vote for the love theme from Shrek -- Dana Glover. A beautiful melody and sentiment, and the tempo can be adjusted pretty easily. Congrats on the upcoming nuptials. 8) :D I love romance! :D

Well, I listened it It Is You, and I really liked that. I'm looking for something along those lines, but probably not quite as quick. We really want a neat song that you can dance nicely too, as well as play with a little bit-- as in, we are also considering doing a foxtrot instead to Michael Buble's version of fever. What a cool song to dance to! Now we have It Is You to add to our list of songs to think about. That's basically all we have in mind right now. My fiance does would prefer something with words, however. Thanks everyone for the great suggestions, and keep em coming!

I agree- that is a beautiful song and it isnt cheesy either. Some common wedding songs ( for instance :"can i have this dance for the rest of my life") is kinda cheesy. (no offense if anyone likes/ used this song) I even know people that regret using the song because everyone does.
I do also love the love theme from romeo and juliet. It a beautiful piece if you just want instrumental.

If you slow It Is You down about 3%, it's beautiful. My brother and I did an american waltz solo to it, and everyone just gushed over it.

Well, the easiest way is to play it on a system with pitch control. :) Barring that, you can save it onto the computer and there's programs to change the speed and save it.
