Ask questions, meet dancers, and be part of the conversation.
I don't know where is the problem. Everybody decides if he want to smoke or not. That discussion is very difficult becouse the both sides have there vision about this question. But you definitly cant judge some who want to be a dancer and who smoke. Its there decision.
Well all right!I got a friend who dances very good but he don't smoke much but drinks lot.
I don't think something has noticeably changed during this timespan. Including ballroom world. I just think that not all reasons have been covered answering "Why dancers smoke?". So I have supposed one more reason: smoking as a social act - trying to look sexy. There's no doubt ballroom dance is sexy itself - so why wouldn't some dancer take a chance to add extra points to own sexuality? It has been almost twenty years since Bija's call. Do you think something has changed? And if so, why has something changed? Is there more insight, more education, less advertising or role models, or is there more restrictions and public pressure?
I don't think so...smoking as a social act...
Happy to hear that, actually. You are from Western Europe or USA, right?I don't think so.
I am at home in the tango scene. The women there are exposed to a completely different pressure to conform: they want to be seen with the rolled-up yoga mat on their back, they eat vegan and want to look like gazelles.
The few smokers I know don't smoke in public. They steal away in embarrassment. If I ask someone to dance, they immediately apologize because they could smell of tar. (Tango is danced cheek to cheek).
Women smoking for social reasons may have happened in the last century. Today, clearly the addictive character predominates.
