Why, oh why, oh why do *some* men

Why is it that when male "non dancers" hear you dance latin dances/salsa, one of the first things they do is look at you and gyrate their hips, and that is before you have shook hands and said your name! I have yet to hear/see of a female doing this in connection with a guy!

I use the term "non dancer" loosely as he does/did dance a little, some sort of swing/rock & roll.

As he was a friend of my host, I did dance with the above person but if I were anywhere else, I would have abandoned my "dance with everyone unless they are drunk" policy, like a cat scarred by fireworks!!!

I so feel you, Pacion. I am extremely reluctant to mention I'm a dancer because of the way you get treated by 99% of people. When the topic unfortunately came up in some conversations, I was extremely reluctant to say I dance. When I finally did, they asked me why I was so reluctant. I explained. And, oh surprise of surprises! They said I'm being silly since I like what I'm doing. They thought I was ashamed of dancing!
Some poeple just don't get that there's prejudice out there...
Oh, and just to make you feel better, when gossip and other warped means of tranferring information informed everyone at my sister's wedding that I was a "latin dancer", I had to beat men away with a stick! They were gawking at me like I was raw meat and they were hungry dogs!
Back to the old "dancers are easy to get in the sack"...
