yesterday's activities

Dh and I watch carefully this fast huge cold rainstorm pattern - decide to pick up GS#2 after the storm passes, for the most part. Disneyland/Calif Adventure here we come! Check into Fairfield Inn by Marriott, where every employee there makes sure we are happy and taken care of (YES YES YES!!!) double that, I redeemed my credit union card points for a free room on a Fri/Sat stay! That made it even sweeter. Hotel staff gives us inside tips and hints as DH can't walk well enough to hold up. Rent Electric scooter cart from hotel (which is cheaper than renting from Disney) DH and I smiled at each other when hotel staff informs us that THEY take care of scooter, we just ask for it, use it, deliver it back to hotel - WELLA...ok, let's just say DH did a happy dance with GS. Hit the room to unpack - and GS explodes into laughter and smiles, to discover we have the Toy Story room. Didn't know the rooms are themed - he's happy as a lark. Eat dinner, play games in arcade, pick out spot on 8th floor balcony walkway to watch the fireworks show. It was amazing.
DH and I were very pleased that we could, with GS, walk/ride, to the main gate entrance from hotel, better yet, we took him and discovered what Downtown Disney was all about. GS couldn't say enough,,,and that was without rides.
Disney! "frozen" at night with blue, huge Christmas decor and such. GS announces his best favorite ride was Star Wars Simulator. GS also informs his ever loving spoiling grandparents that he will not do any rides that etc. etc. etc.,. We secretly smile (THANK GOD!)
Next day, California Adventure - get there early early - loved the race cars. I'm not a ride fan, but LOVED the Cars Race Car Track. GS runs into a number of characters walking around and ends up playing with Chip and Dale in a pretend Star Wars battle in the middle of the street, spontaneous...what does GS do when he feels he is losing the battle? He pulls the Darth Vardar hand hold and Dale goes down...all of this spontaneously. It was great!!! Let's say the smile did not leave his face for the rest of the day.
Head out, drop GS off with tons of take home items and a few new shirts (of course GP could not resist), head out to neighbors college graduation party for her son. We love him to death, plan on seeing his furniture and designs in many stores soon! IF Disney doesn't scoop him up first. Home...ahhhhh, feet up, right ankle blown from walking in Disney although DH offered me his EVC. Watch a movie, receive call from GS thanking us for the weekend adventure and the best hotel room EVER. The magic moment memory maker? priceless!

Thursday:

Rolfer
Lesson

Friday:

Expensive new rear tires. Expensive. But car feels much better
Many errands, no dancing
Crash and burn around 8 pm

Saturday:

Work
Errands
Almost go social dancing, but fall asleep instead

Sunday:

Wheelchair dance class, in which I dance with one very experienced dancer, she's great for breaking me back in to dancing (I've been doing administrative stuff for the wheelchair group for about a year, haven't danced wheelchair in ages, have forgotten pretty much everything); one new guy, who has all kinds of issues and it shows in his dancing, and guy who's been dancing since about August -- and he can LEAD. HE LEADS FROM THE CHAIR. We end up doing a seriously fun, improvised WCS, and he's an absolute treat to dance with. So fun, as the kids say.
Advent party at home of my Blond German Friend, who has made something that sounds like gluewine, but is like a cross between sangria and mulled wine, but hot; I carefully try out solid food and keep to the pellegrino water until the gluewine just smells too damn good; rest of evening is a blur

From Wikipedia:

German and Austrian Glühwein

A cup of Glühwein
Glühwein
(roughly, "glow-wine," from the hot irons once used for mulling) is popular in German-speaking countries and in the region of Alsace in France. It is a traditional beverage that is offered during the Christmas holidays. The oldest documented Glühwein tankard is attributed to Count John IV of Katzenelnbogen, a German nobleman who was the first grower of Riesling grapes. This gold-plated lockable silver tankard is dated to c. 1420.

Glühwein is usually prepared from red wine, heated and spiced with cinnamon sticks, cloves, star aniseed, citrus, sugar and at times vanilla pods. It is sometimes drunk mit Schuss (with a shot), which means that rum or some other liquor has been added. Fruit wines, such as blueberry wine and cherry wine, are occasionally used instead of grape wine in some parts of Germany. There is also a variation of Glühwein which is made with white wine. However, white Glühwein is less popular than its red counterpart.

Another popular variant of Glühwein in Germany is the Feuerzangenbowle. It shares the same recipe, but for this drink a rum-soaked sugarloaf is set on fire and allowed to drip into the wine.

over here: mayhem and chaos...simply going to put posting on hold until some sort of normalcy returns..basically no free time...at.all

WEDNESDAY:
Pre-comp prep, including tanning and packing.

THURSDAY:
Flew to Vegas. Read Howard Jacobson's J, which I had started on my Thanksgiving trip but hadn't gotten to finish b/c of all the research papers and finals.

FRIDAY:
Competition day. This was interesting and fun, though not great from a results point of view. Teacher's suitcase did not make it, so he danced my single dances in street clothes, then scrounged up some items he could borrow for championship and scholarship.

That evening, we went out for pizza and saw Michael Jackson's One at Mandalay Bay. Fun to do something social together.

SATURDAY:
Relaxing day. Read Roxane Gay's An Untamed State, surfed internet, worked out. Went to Saturday night competition.

SUNDAY:
Explored Vegas a little, read, surfed internet, worked out. Went to Sunday night competition and show.

MONDAY:
Flew home. Finished Roxane Gay's An Untamed State.

TUESDAY:
Read half of Arrested Justice.
Went to a First Year Team meeting. A dean dropped in unexpectedly to make an announcement.
Today was the official day grades were due (I got mine in last week.) Checked the grades of my first year advisees.
Wrote a book review.
Went to Child's holiday concert. Music was okay. Child's friendships are very sweet and touching. Talked with other parents about possible high schools, public and private. (Child is in 7th, but hers is a 7th/8th/9th classroom, so some parents are facing this decision more imminently. We might as well pool information!)

And it WILL put a glow on! It's the main reason why I go to the Christkindlesmarkt on Daley Plaza several times a season. :hungry::hungry::hungry:

Probably the reason the rest of the evening was a blur. Can't imagine adding flaming rum soaked sugar cone to it. People can walk after drinking Feuerzangenbowle? Dang.

Yesterday:

Lesson, in which loosening up helps
Work; private party with 18 attendees; six hours on a concrete floor does not do my knees any good but the people are happy
