yesterday's activities

Yesterday:
Avoided writing review of Thursday's show; my bad; this involved noodling around on the internet and reading a lot
Went to another show, this one very Off-Broadway and also quite good, about strivers at an open-mic bar in Nashville

Why stop the trend?...doing today now...

Awake at 8 so that I could make lunch to take to my brother's house. Long story but we can just leave it at the fact that I didn't want to order out and his wife isn't overly domestic...So I put some boneless ribs in the crockpot last night, whipped up a shrimp broccoli alfredo and a blueberry cheesecake this a.m...cheated on the crust.... drove to south bend, spent a few hours...they have 2 boxers and I adore those doggos and they've done some long overdue things to the house they payed to show off. I also like to check in on their adult son who still lives there ...had to hustle back home to do tear down duty for our big beer fest fundraiser for work...currently putting a heating pad on the shoulder over that and all of the house painting...anticipating that is about it for the day

...joined AARP?
Yes, I signed up for the 5-year membership. :D

I realize (as of recently) that AARP is open to anyone 18+, but I've been getting frequent invites in the mail and if they make good on their promise, I will also get a free car trunk organizer! Since I just had a milestone birthday I'm using it as an excuse for all sorts of things like this.

ETA: although I don't have the actual policy in hand (formality at this point, it's guaranteed issue), I also applied for the famous $9.95 policy that Alex Trebek used to hawk on TV, now it is Jonathan. I have now reached the lowest issue age, so this was another "thing I'm going to do on that birthday". (FYI, I have more knowledge about this product than most TV viewers for reasons, so I will answer questions via DM but you can save the "but did you know that"... yes, I do, and then some).

CARP in Canada has similar advantages. I joined at the youngest age years ago, and have saved a lot (thousands of dollars over the years) on things like insurance, top-flight hearing aids for noisy gatherings et al. Worth it.

Up at 730ish and immediately distracted by the need to clean out drawers and the pantry while waiting for my coffee to brew...also unloaded dishwasher... after coffee did some more work on my way to other work...tried to paint trim on two more windows..it was so insufferably humid I am electing to do the 2nd coat another day...hydrated then cut Dh's hair because i started doing it when we were young and poor and now he likes it.....spent some time nuzzling elderly clingy kitty then wrangled a huge amount of cat litter, sand, trash etc...glad the aleeve came in the mail today...did some dishes, made dinner...dh has been busy with FIFA so not sure when we will begin binge watching something new...as always, it is 630p and there is nothing left in the tank

Yesterday:
Wrote review of Thursday show, posted
Went to garden center to get new plants for exhausted window box pansies; went to restaurant where window box pansies were gasping and dying, replaced, had lunch
Home; draft review of Friday show
Brain dead, tried not to fall asleep at 7:30 with mixed results

As I remember it, lots of time spent making bereavement calls, networking, working on grants and since dh was coming home late due to train issues, I made his dinner then promptly went horizontal for the remainder of the day....

Today:

Worked out the little old ladies this morning in the basement. Then garage door repairman came and went...shampooed the carpet and mopped in lower level cat dominated areas... watched grandbabies which was just perfect and exhausting... boneless BBQ ribs finished nicely in crockpot so dh is set up for dinner...pretty much spent

ATM, air brush spray tan, pack, re-pack into a different suitcase with wheels that work better, review heat lists, check in for flight online & save boarding pass to Apple wallet, defend myself against our cats & puppy who LOVE the smell of the spray tan and want to see if it tastes as good as it smells (answer: it does not), babble excitedly on phone to BFF about upcoming trip to NY, try to get to bed at a reasonable time.

Monday:
Lesson has been moved to an hour and a half later than normal; what on earth am I going to do with all that extra time before lesson?
Oh, yeah, write/edit/post a review
Lesson, starts rocky, improves
Get review from one of my sources, edit from 1400 words down to 1100 and want to cut another 200; Review is of show opening tonight, press agent has asked "please hold all reviews until 9pm" and at 9:12, I get text from writer asking why it's not up yet; sweetheart, I do not work for you, so chill out especially since you turned in War and Peace and I asked for five paragraphs; post review; go to sleep
phone pings; writer has found an error; grump grump but I get up and fix it; text writer that it's fixed and I am going BACK TO SLEEP
wait for it
she texts back
when I say I'm going BACK TO SLEEP do NOT text me back because it wakes me up grump grump

Yesterday:

Lesson; Teach requests that I come in wearing a Gown, so before lesson I try on my remaining 3 gowns, none of which I've worn in at least 4 years; one is adorbs but too long, one is pretty but doesn't quite work, one is The Gown, and thank god for it; during lesson, Gown is fine but shoes have stretched; TDNWMH because I'm not buying a new pair gosh darnit!; time to mess with inserts etc

Home; all plans to do anything constructive evaporate and the afternoon passes in a blur

Thurs.
Assembled items to take to local food pantry where I was going to make families aware of our Phoenix Center for Grief... it was blazing hot.. After that picked up the kiddos and dtr to head into the " big city" to see grampys office before he retires in the Spring...one must take an escalator and two elevators to get to the top of building where grampy works...which happily was impressive enough to make the loooooooong aka under an hour, car ride a distant memory...on walk to parking garage also get yelled at by local unhoused person and bathed it the smell of fresh skunk weed, so they have had the full experience now....then trekked over to the ice cream museum...Google it...which, once we were no longer waiting in the blistering heat to enter, was a toddler dreamland consisting of all of the ice cream a kid can possibly eat throughout several fun packed kid centric activity rooms...home around 8...that was the end of both of us...but well worth it

Yesterday:
Went to Manhattan to watch @ProgressNotPerfection dance; this involved driving into/through Manhattan to get to Brooklyn *at morning rush hour*
Trip home was much faster and went smoothly until about 155th Street, at which point it took me longer to go the next mile than the first 10
Home; edit/publish someone's rather odd review of some rather odd theater, but why not
Bed

don't know how you do it...we hit a buttload of city traffic yesterday... I about lost my marbles

After reading these accounts of days far busier than mine, I was reminded of them while re-reading an old Tess Gerritsen Rizzoli and Isles thriller, Die Again. The climactic scene where a serial killer learns the hard way not to attack a harried housewife in her kitchen while she is simultaneously packing for a long trip, making dinner, and feeding a demanding cat. She will first stun you by clunking you on the head with a jar of raspberry jam. Then, even if dazed you still persist in attempting to strangle her, she will first slice your forehead with the edge of an opened can of cat food, and then, when you're blinded by the blood, stab you with the kitchen knife she happens to have in her other hand. Moral: Do not load one more chore on a multitasking woman!

I don't know how the rest of you do all that in one day. :jawdrop:
