Yet another Shoe-Thread - Advice needed on standard shoes

Hi everyone!

I've browsed through a few older shoe threads now, but I still think I found a few questions unanswered.
I'm still in the painful process of finding "my" brand and could need a few new inputs.
How long do you give a new shoe (after dancing them in) until you decide it's not right for you and get a new model?
I'm a bit confused about the heel sizes. I have two pairs from the UK, one with a 2" heel and one with 2,5", but I read in one of the older threads that other European brands have 60 mm which would be inbetween, or not?
I'm not sure which heel size to pick anyway. The 2" make my footwork and balance more precise but the 2,5" give us a much better frame and posture, so what to do?
I'm considering to try Rummos, Dance Naturals or Paoul. I'm looking for a standard shoe that sits firmly on the heel, supports my arch and is a bit wider towards the toes. Oh, and leather inner material is also important. My current shoe has some synthetics in there and makes me sweat too much which makes my foot move in the shoe.

Shoe experts, please tell me what you think :)

unless you have a real problem with your feet, i would go with a 2 1/2...as to how long it should take to break a pair in, if I can't get them to feel okay within two weeks, they are generally a bad shoe for me

Welcome to DF Becky!

Hopefully some standard folks will be along to help out with this one. But my two cents worth on the heel height, unless you really need the 1/2" to help with the connection with your partner, go with the lower heel to help you be more precise with your footwork and balance.

and I would disagree ;)... perhaps in practice with 2in. but not at a comp...as to the shoe, I like a supadance court, most any one will do for me but I have a narrow foot...shrug...how's that for keeping it murky?

Thanks for the nice welcome!

My coaches can't agree on my heel size either :D At the moment I change shoes a lot, depending on what we want to focus on during practice. I intend to compete in 2,5" btw, but they are so tough to get used to :S

I love Supa as well for standard!!! they make wonderful shoes.... as for heel height, I agree with Fascination.. 2.5 is generally the norm unless you have a serious problem with your foot. Paoul makes heels about 2.75 (at least all the ones i tried on were that height), and the heel is thicker, which made it harder for me to do heel turns... but everyone is different, and some people like the added stability...

Yup, my DP will wear NOTHING but Supadance for Standard... AND will only practice in the SAME shoe (albeit a pair worn beyond competing in) that she competes in, i.e. same model, same size, same heel height, etc. not practice in one and compete in another.

IMO...just don't give it alot of mental power over you...I regularly practice in 3 inch latins and once I just got over myself it was no big deal...once being balanced on every step is your priority the size of the heel isn't that relevant, IMO....good luck

My favorite brand is Internationals and I currently use 2 1/2 heels for everything. I even found (with the help of some folks here on DF) a practice pair which comes with 2 1/2 heel. I am planning to try out a bigger heel, though.

this is generally my view as well but I have also had no difficulties arise from practicing in varying levels as well

I've heard a lot of good things about Supadance and International. A friend from the dance club doesn't use her Supadance competition shoes and I can try them on this week. They're a size 4.5 and I'm mostly a 4 -4.5, we'll see if they fit. :)
I'd do about everything to get rid of my pair of DSIs by now. Anyone else who has problems with the inner material of the DSI shoes? (stichings that rub and synthetics that smell?)

Let me give you a short update on my shoe-issue.
I was at my entrusted dance shoe store today and tried a few of the brands I mentioned.

Supadance: couldn't find a pair that wasn't loose around my heel even though I tried 3 sizes
International: basically the same, but additionally too tight around my toes
Paoul: great fit, very smooth and soft
Dance Naturals: even better and with a nice suede inner sole

Unfortunately they didn't have different heel heights in my size, but the 50mm heels felt even lower than my current 2" heels. So they're ordering me the DNs with a 60mm heel, and I guess that's going to be the one that I'll settle for (at least for the meantime)

funny that the supas were all loose around your heels.... i have extremely narrow heels and they fit me fine... hmmmm... lol.. shoes are weird like that..
