You as an observer of the dance

When you are watching a performance, do you prefer the dancers obviously preforming to you (the audience) or would you prefer to see it as the audience being allowed to view an intimate/personal moment between the dancers as the story unfolds?

If it is a performance than obviously the dancers need to keep the audience in mind, irrespective of my preference. If I wished to watch two dancers dancing for each other and not an audience I would observe social dancing. I prefer watching social dancing.

Definintely prefer the dancers to be dancing with each other, as if there is no audience. Some pros are really good at doing this, while still, actually, engaging the audience, but it doesn't appear that they are doing so.

depends on the dance for me...but, as others have said, I like a bit of both...it seems silly to be oblivious to either

Depends on the dance they're doing. And they should always be aware, at least choreographically, that there IS an audience. (I have no interest in social dancing for its own sake and tend to not pay as close attention to watching it as to comptetitve dance.)

My favorite couples do the latter, so either I prefer it - or it results in better dancing, which is what I really want to see.

Both. When Yulia pointed and winked at me, I felt a huge rush of excitement - her energy and love of dance is powerful.

They are both equally relative to the intention of the dance. Both are apropriate, and equally as enjoyable.
