I'd rather have Max say he got taken as well, and have him back posting... which was far more valuable to far more people than this book project seems to have turned out to be.

Were the posts by Max really that valuable? As an inexperienced dancer they seemed valuable to me-but maybe not. I also note that several of the moderators also saw them as valuable. However, I agree with the poster who stated we got taken. Thus, in order not to get taken by someone else, I am wondering if any of the professional dancers or studio owners such as Larinda noticed any red flags in the posts that Max posted? If so, I think it would be helpful if they posted those red flags-so that we and others may not be taken again.

that's ridiculous....let's not confuse the two things.....Max was, regarding his technical contributions, very talented and helpful....I personally greatly benefitted from them as well as his excellent written analysis of my dancing that he so generously donated to the DF auction....folks who are out money have a right to be upset about that...but I am not going to tolerate accusations that Max has deliberately set out to dupe anyone....enough....those who are out money, are out money without sufficient explanation...and I am sorry about that....your displeasure is duly noted....we are now done with this....it is on record and we are done

Yes, Max's contributions were that valuable. There were never any red flags from him. I too was taken by the Metroleta project. That has nothing to do with Max's significant contributions to DF.

I was able to track down Alice Cura of Metroleta.

Refunds will be sent to all who funded their Indiegogo project, fingers crossed.

Running out the door, I'll post the email I received later...

Have a few more seconds....

From Alice

Having missed our timeline to deliver this book into your hands more than once, we have decided that it is not fair to ask you and the other contributors to continue waiting. So, we have decided to refund your generous donations to this project. We will refund all contributions in full (we will cover the fees deducted by Indiegogo and PayPal).

Indiegogo does not support refunds, so we plan to issue the refunds via check. We will submit the checks as soon as we receive a reply from you, or by January 31st, whichever is sooner.

If you have a PayPal account and prefer to receive your refund via PayPal, please let us know, and tell us if your PayPal account uses a different email address. Since the original payments were more than 60 days ago, refunds can only be issued with PayPal's “Send Money” tool. You would receive an email from PayPal that we sent money to you, then after a few days you could transfer the money to your bank account.

The street address we have on file for you is:

XXXXX

If the check should be mailed to a different address, please let us know.

We are fortunate to be involved with two projects with powerful social impact. We hope that in the next two years we will be able to show how we were justified in focusing on those projects in lieu of the dance book.

That effort has meant that our attention was pulled away from the book, although we have always intended—and still intend—to complete and publish it. We are currently adding to our team, and re-assigning time to completing the book with some added improvements. But we feel it is not fair to ask you and the other contributors to continue waiting, so we are issuing the refunds.

When the book is published, as an original donor and supporter of this book, you will still be able to buy it at the same discounted price as your contribution.

We thank you for your support and truly apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Sincerely,
Alice

Mods;

With the "You should write a book" thread locked, can you combine/link the threads?

Post Script ; inquired about Max's health, did receive a response but I'm hopeful.

I also received the email. If they actually come through I plan to turn around and donate the money back to Metroleta. It never was the money it was the principle. I believe in the goodness of man unless proven otherwise and Metroleta seems to be attempting to do good things for children
