    Calluses

I don't think calluses reduce the pain....in fact, I think my feet gets redder and more swollen :? Anyway, I scrub with a pumice stone everyday in the shower. It doesn't significantly reduce the calluses that I already have from dancing but it does prevent new ones from forming. I'd tried...

    Eye contact: Waaah! Help!

Sometimes it helps to "cheograph" the eye-contact. For instance, in a samba run, it's one(look)-ah(look) two(don't look), or in a three-cha-chas it's cha-cha-cha (look); cha-cha-cha (don't look); and cha-cha-cha (look). There can be plenty of instances in these and other dances as well, too...

    Question about shoes

The castor oil seems to provide some kind of traction with wax on the dance floor. I've tried brushing my soles out, but it never works as well as castor oil, espeically on dirty floors since the dirt will get caught in the nap and "smooth out" the nap.

    Question about shoes

I'm currently doing a search and found this thread by accident. My coaches passed on a tip: Rub castor oil on the soles. This really works, espcially on dirty or too-waxy floors.

    Shoe Addiction

     uh huh. Especially my friends from London who would pop by Sloan Sq to get ballroom dance shoes and bring them over to the States for me when they come visit!!!!! :D

    Shoe Addiction

Weird...I do that when I go back to Asia. I stock up on food stuff, clothing (especially accessories and jewellery). The only thing I find really cheap in the States are TV/computers and brand-name clothing from factory outlets. :D Those I relish!

    Shoe Addiction

I try to spread my shoe binge out a little...it's sort of like being on a diet. On a good diet you're allowed to indulge occasionally in "sinful" foods so you won't end up having a whole tub of ice-cream in one sitting. I do that to my shoe addiction, too  It's easier on my budget!

    Shoe Addiction

www.frenchsole.com They have a store in Santa Monica if you want to see how it fits: it's called London Sole. But like ballroom shoes, I think it's cheaper to buy from London and get it shipped over!

    Shoe Addiction

:D I bought another pair of leather ballet flats from French Sole (I think it's called London Sole here in the States; I usually order mine from London). I used to love strappy, sexy stilettos but after I started to dance, I prefer ballet flats, especially the low-cut ones that show lots of toe...

    Dance vs parents and school

That remark made me remember my days as a beginner when I kept complaining about the way my ex-partners lead/dance/move/whatever. I think as one progresses in partner dancing, one'll realise that it takes two to tango (literally!). And it's as much my fault when my partners do the steps wrong...

    - fall asleep over my meals - fall asleep over my papers/keyboard Come to think of it, I'm kinda lucky never to have fallen asleep over a bowl of hot soup

    Heartland Classic

I have been to the Heartland Classic last year. It had a great turnout, I think, because it was a National Qualifying event (i.e. Regionals). This year, the Regionals are held in KY this coming weekend, so I'm not too sure how Heartland will be. Hope this helps.

Dancewear: Prices are "hot hot hot"!

I know a girl who's about a size 10-12 who is an AMAZING dancer. And she has won almost every single competition in every category she competed in: she went from newcomer to gold/novice in 2+years. Even our Latin coach thinks that she's amazing :) So (I think) if one's good it doesn't really...
