    O2cm banned from NDCA events?

The "new" way of seeing the scores online is actually using premier- the NDCA program. I find it a bigger pain in the neck to view scores than compmngr as well. And more people don't use the the DanceComp app because- like you said, it's buggy. Less people are using it over time, not more...

Mixed Open Division--Could it be a thing?

I think it's as simple and they've realized the US market wants to do blackpool and USA dance teachers couldn't bring their students. So essentially next year you'll have: An NDCA style pro-am at blackpool with teachers who have declared themselves pro (from all countries but honestly 80% of...

    Taxi Dancers

Taxi dancer is used all the time. For example, if taken solo trips to Havana and Buenos Aires. Both times I took lessons (duh, salsa and arg tango) and both times I paid the studio for a taxi dancer to take me out dancing that night so I could practice what I learned and have an inside...

Has anyone ever achieved gold status on most of the 10 styles in 1 year?

What are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to "know" all the steps so you can be an accomplished social dancer? Are you wanting to become a dance professional? Are you trying to become an amateur competitor? A pro competitor? One of the best in the world? I'm confused because your...

    Regress

I think as we move up and become more aware of what we're doing it can feel like we're dancing worse. I used to tell my pro that my bronze self would kick my silver selfs knat. It just felt like I knew what I was doing more and danced stronger then. The more complicated patterns and greater...

    Dance Rituals

I do my own hair and makeup. And I start a long time before I dance and really take my time with it. I was in theatre a long time ago- this process reminds me of using makeup to "get into character". I listen to great music and really try to enjoy the process of getting ready.

Has anyone ever achieved gold status on most of the 10 styles in 1 year?

If you're trying to compete as a pro in the big leagues- I can't name a single person in the top 20 couples in any of the 4 styles who hasn't been dancing at least 10 years. Most of them are 20 years.

Has anyone ever achieved gold status on most of the 10 styles in 1 year?

Getting to gold or open competitively takes years- I've been taking 5-8 private lessons a week for 4 years and just got to open in one style. And I moved quickly. It also depends on what you define as dancing competitively. Are you talking am-am or pro-am.

    NDCA Syllabus Online (not really)

Keep in mind NDCA does not represent students. It is an association of dance teachers and companies. Therefore it's mission isn't to make things easier for students or Ams in pro-ams. When they do, it's nice an all, but pros pay membership fees to NDCA to advocate for them. The pros are the...

What I Learned At My Last Comp

Michigan is a small-midsize comp that does ages differently- so A is actually up to 45, B is 46-60ish, and then there's sometimes a senior. It makes for bigger heats. Michigan, , volunteer and Galaxy all Do that

    Boyko hair and makeup

I would say this- i would definitely NOT recommend Boyko if you have super short hair. I went to him once and it was a disaster. Like embarrassing. I felt like the part in "there's something about Mary." I've had numerous conversations with other short haired women- they e expressed...

    Competition Makeup

So, you probably don't need eye primer. I would vote for a good lip liner and lipstick over gloss. And I would say do not do your makeup in the car under any circumstances. Depending on the drive, do it at home and then just touch up when you get there or leave earlier and do it at the...

Good dancers don't ask, beginning dancers I want to refuse

Stop refusing beginners. The more you're seen dancing, the more people will ask you. Plus, working with those beginners will actually make you better as you will have to try on your own balance, etc. more. A more snarky response is "why should more advanced dancers dance with you when you...
