Help on fixing a smooth dress?

Why don't you just have the chest area altered and take it in?

    Advantages btwn social lesson types

That's not actually true. Competitive dancing is also in American style, argentine tango, west coast swing, etc. And when you take social dance lessons, you are learning bronze American style syllabus figures. In many studios around the country, including the franchises, you take social dance...

    Dancer's Resolutions - 2016

Mine is opposite many of yours. It's to have more FUN dancing. To stop taking it so damn seriously. To be able to look back at the end of the year and say to myself "this past year I learned a lot, but more importantly, I had a BLAST!"

Have you increased/decreased your spending on dancing?

I've only been dancing a few years. Last year I threw what felt like an obscene amount of money into it - 10 privates a week, like a dozen comps, etc. Tried to swim with the big dogs. While I had a lot of success and definitely made a name for myself, I found it exhausting. I'm a single...

    Advantages btwn social lesson types

Also, are you just trying to learn steps and figures so you can be socially able to follow a bunch of people or are you really interested in technique? There's different reasons for either choice and neither is better than the other, but if you actually are interested in technique, you would...

    Cuddle, Cradle, and Sweetheart

I heard the reason they still do it is because at competition you can immediately tell who's a FA couple- and FA judges want to know this.... But that could just be people being cynical- maybe.

    Dumb question

There's a very successful ladies c bronze silver student who has never worn anything but fring jumpsuits. She's very short and I think maybe it's to make her look longer? Or hide her knees and ankles? She won USDC bronze this year. To me it feels like you're hiding something. When your knee...

What makes a dress cost _______?

Often, previously worn dresses that have been worn by sponsored pros are actually sold as new dresses (which I hate), but it's done. So the first one might have actually been sold to someone after the pro wore it and then sold back on consignment, therefore a used dress- so $2500. (Which it...

    Ohio Star Ball 2015

Well, it's not just a live stream, they are treating it like true TV programming. There's cameras everywhere. This isn't comparable to event only video vendors. There's a whole set up downstairs where there will be commentators, etc. - like ESPN for dance

IDS vs. Ray Rose vs. Aida Latin Shoes

I recently moved from a Supadance 3 inch flare to Aida 3 inch slim heel. I find the Aida, even in the slim heel, is far easier to keep on balance because of where the heel is placed. you can get Aida's with flared heels, but the slim looks awesome and i feel more stable than i was in the...

Just for fun: What's your favorite kind of ballroom/latin costume? Why?

Plus those dresses on Natalie above are show dance dresses. When she's on the floor with other couples she is definitely not dressed that simply

    ballroom gown rental

i've found rhythmic to be pretty reasonable (well, as reasonable as it is in this world) in the resale market - 4500 dresses being sold used for about 2000-2500. encore to me is the most ridiculous. They are often trying to sell those dresses practically at the new price - especially...

How do some people practice 5-8 hours per day while still making enough money to afford competition?

None of them work. Retired and/or trust fund. In other words, independently wealthy.

I did a showcase to "Sweet Child o Mine" as a rumba. It was awesome. I use an iphone app called "tempo". you load songs into it and then tap out beat. it will give you the bpm, then you can slow down/speed up as necessary, edit it with cuts, etc. its awesome.

    Dancing with a Torn Meniscus

I had my first meniscus surgery on my right knee when I was 17. The second one on my left knee at 21. Lots of sports as a kid. Now, 20 years later, my knees are the least of my problems. (looking at you, right hip) With surgery, they repaired one, cleaned the other one up. Then PT. I was...
