Is there pole dancing for men? (I mean as dancers :) )

Tango as it crosses over with the relationships, seduction and sexuality

It’s rare that both halves of the non professional couple have the same commitment to AT. That doesn’t have to bad as long as the less focused is relaxed about other partner’s practicing and dancing with other men/women. Here “cooperating” means accepting and not getting in the way of the other...

Tango as it crosses over with the relationships, seduction and sexuality

This is a wise policy. As in life, anything is possible in tango, but the richest experiences come from going deeper than physicality or sexuality. I know from talking to women that men can get a bad reputation by responding in the wrong way, so always assume “it’s just a dance.” It’s the...

Code to allow Argentine milongas to re-open

It will switch back to the "way it was" very quickly. I vividly remember looking at videos of milongas in March-April 2020 and thinking then "we didn't know how wonderful life was then; it will never return"--it was like reminiscing about trips to Paris while being worked to death in the GULAG...

Code to allow Argentine milongas to re-open

This behavior predates the Bolshevik revolution. I believe it goes deeper than your explanation. (There is a rather similar “fudge it all” reaction in many parts of the US.) Back in April 2020 when I described the contrast between words and actual behavior in the part of senior management and...

    A story of my dancing

Why not take up Argentine Tango? As a social Dance.... the anthesis of your career so far, except that the masochistic component remains. Why not treat dance as a way of exploring other unexpected people, as comedy, as public embarrassment, as courtesy, as friendliness or sex? I understand the...

Code to allow Argentine milongas to re-open

In Russia it’s reckless dancing without masks and great fun and everyone is willing to accept the risks. People get sick and come back happy with immunity and keep dancing and will not stop living out of fear of death. irresponsible? Yes. But a conscious choice and an embrace of life.

Code to allow Argentine milongas to re-open

I don’t anything would have made a difference short of total lockdown (and economic collapse) until everyone was vaccinated. We throw around a lot of blame, but the truth is there’s no controlling the disease without herd immunity (and or vaccinations). Many deaths along the way. :(

How to overcome the emotion trap of AT?

Contempt for being rejected at practicas

I think that is well put indeed. In another thread I said that for me D’Arienzo (rhythmic) and Salamanca (melodic) are danced so differently that they are like different dances. The technique is different: use/non use of projection or lapis, or enrosque, where weight is distributed. However...

Code to allow Argentine milongas to re-open

I think it is likely these rules will be observed in the breach. People are likely to change partners but quietly..... once the milongas reopen (even under restrictive conditions), the rules will go out the window in 1-2 hours unless strictly enforced.

Outside of BA where are the best Tango scenes?

I have also heard good things about Istanbul from multiple dancers (especially women), but have never danced there myself.

How to balance parenting/family demands with dance addiction?

This is a good question and it relates not only to dance. I believe that couples should preserve separate identities and depend LESS on each other than the traditional view of marriage implies. Both should remain interesting and vivid in their own right—not because of the person next to...

How to balance parenting/family demands with dance addiction?

What I see is parents waiting for kids to finish their dance instruction/competitions, etc. I ask them, “what about you? Why aren’t YOU dancing?” That’s ten times more common than the scenario where the kid is waiting for the parent to finish.

    Milongas in Russia?

First you’ll have to clear the huddle of entry. The border is essentially closed except for Russian citizens and their spouses. Milongas are open in Russia but close earlier than before (officially by 23:00). Most days of the week there is one to go to. Women outnumber men. The beginner lead...

How to overcome the emotion trap of AT?

What a wonderful post! Yes, I have had similar experiences; it’s one of the core reasons to put up with the misery of learning this horrifyingly difficult dance. 1) Early on, after my description of a similar experience, my teacher warned me, “sometimes after that, people think they’ve actually...

Improving your tango knowledge post covid

One of the biggest distinctions for me is weight distribution. In rhythmic tango I spend more time with weight on both legs and do not do projections followed by slow weight shift to that leg. Also step length is a good bit shorter. The way I move during the dance is different. However, this...
