I never understood this rule. Why don't they just dance the heat twice (ie - the pro dances it twice but the students dance it once) and have it judged as if it was one? That seems like a win/win/win. The students could dance the multis they want and the teacher and organizers would all get more entries.

Is this not done just because the judges need to see all the couples on the floor at the same time?

I think yes, in one sense or another. I personally would not be interested in competing "against" people who were never on the floor with me. I figure if that's what you want, you can always do a showcase.

It might also make competition scheduling much more difficult.

In addition to the other responses, I would also ask where do you draw the line. 2 students, 3 students, 6 or 10 students who all want to be in that multi-dance with that pro?

That would happen with this student. She would definitely beat me.

There's no drama. Given my schedule and so on, this is actually working out great for me. This will give me one "serious" day and one day to get some competition floor time in smooth so I'm more mentally ready in summer (when my schedule is better.)

I chatted with her on facebook and both of us were sort of "No...you should have priority!" "No ... you should have priority!" We'll figure out alternating for local competitions. (Somehow or another.) I'm sure the pro would love to clone himself if he could. Obviously, he can't!

I think this is the serious risk. While I'm pretty sure she would beat me, I don't know the strength of the field. It's not impossible I could make a semi. She will for sure!!

See, the first time I heard that female pro ams did this kind of thing, I was amazed. "You mean ... you guys actually talk to each other?" The thought had never occurred to me!

Let me just say I tried to have a similar conversation once. It didn't went as well.

If a pro has 2 students in the same age division and level, a common solution is to have one student dance the scholarship and the other one dance the championship. This works for most comps. However, at Ohio, there is only one championship/scholarship.

Works just fine with submitted video rounds.

Fine! But I get odds in the bet because we already determined in the other thread that it's harder for men students to beat women. Lol!

We may split championship and scholarship at Windy City later. But for this competition, I'm actually fine with just doing singles in smooth and concentrating on rhythm. I don't think it's necessarily what my pro anticipated, but in some ways it works out better for him. I pointed out that when I win, win WIN rhythm it will remind the other students that he does teach rhythm. (He competes smooth. So lots of students say "I want 'new young guy for smooth'". He doesn't have as many rhythm students. )

Admittedly, the flaw in my theory is I might not win, win WIN! A girl can dream though.

I thought talking with each other would be more efficient because it let us think of more options. The studio owner and pro also came up with possible solutions.
