2021 competition opportunities

Kid memories are not that malleable. To this day my Mom is constantly surprised we remember things she might prefer we forgot. Like her forgetting to sign us up for school in the 5th grade. (We'd moved. First day of school the school did not expect us to be there.)

Kids do forget things. But not necessarily the ones you wish they forgot.

That's already happening to me, and my son is still in elementary school.

Random musing on the topic, given the direction things seem to be going, I'm thinking I need to avail myself of as many virtual opportunities as possible. I'm seriously thinking that by summer most of the comps will be back to in-person. (Let's see if this gets quoted back at me about how wrong I was several months from now).

Just wanted to write a quick trip report for St Louis Star Ball. The last few comps I had been to were disappointments, but not this one. Overall the best comp I've been to in a long while!
  • Very well run and felt covid safe (temperature checks, masks enforced off the floor)
  • I had lots of gentleman competitors which was great!
  • I finally fixed (or greatly improved) my posture and frame which I had been working on for about 2 years. My old pro literally came up to me asked how I finally fixed it. lol
  • I was able to smile while dancing waltz and foxtrot and not have my "thinking" face on.
  • The dancing felt awesome and my placements were the best that I've had in a long time!
  • Will definitely add to my list for next year
Larinda and team did a great job running it and was really cool to meet her in person!

hey - anyone here going to either twin cities or indianapolis open or both? trying to figure out which one might be worth it.

It's killing me that the schedule doesn't work out for me to do millennium gah

I was interested in Twin Cities, but it's July 8-11 in Minneapolis...and my studio is going to the World Promotions "Viva Las Vegas" comp which is July 9-11...and it turns out I can't do that one even if I wanted to, since I have a business seminar in D.C., which is July 7-11! It's our national association's huge annual conference, which didn't happen last year, and (so far) is happening in person in July. Sadly, my career still has to take precedence over my dance obsession.
 
This might be a question for the organizers, but hoping someone here might be able to enlighten me.

I'm looking at the Chicago Crystal Ball multi-dance form, and other than scholarships, there are a handful of different multi-dances:
  • World Dancesport Series
  • Pro/Am 3-dance challenges
  • Pro/Am 6/9/10-dance challenges
Other than obviously discernable differences on the form such as which dances are included, one event that is unisex, and limit/no limit on upper age boundary, is there any appreciable difference or meaning in these various events? I basically just see 3-4 different opportunities to dance a group of heats, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something.
 
well, unfortunately, i won't be able to go to Twin Cities :( the other girl who competes does latin, and so there would be a dead day in between. Makes me want to start doing smooth again, but i am pretty sure my knee can't handle the level i need to dance at.

So i get stuck with Indianapolis open, which i am sure is nice, but is most likely going to be a smaller comp with little competition.

Well then, it doesn't matter how many people there are if you cannot crush even a small amount of competition. ;-)

(I'm just teasing you ;-))
