2021 competition opportunities

I'm looking at some Fall comps. I think Ohio is too ambitious at the moment.

Any thoughts on either Paragon or Hollywood?
I'm guessing Paragon will be smaller and more chill, less competition?

I don't know anything about Hollywood, but Paragon is on the smaller side: it hasn't been around for all that many years. Everybody I know who has competed at it has enjoyed the experience. What part of the country are you located in?
 
My studio is attending the Grand National Dancesport Championship comp in FL this October. I had considered going, until I found out which hotel is hosting it. Me, spending any money there - no way. Never. Gonna. Happen. I’m not kidding.

For sentimental reasons, I’d like to enter the Heart of America. It was my first - and so far only - comp experience, even though it was virtual; and I’d love to try it in person. But I have a feeling my studio isn’t going to be interested. Until last year, I don’t think they’d ever participated in HOA before. Otoh, that didn’t stop me from making it happen last year, lol.

Paragon has been on the smaller side in the past -- iirc, they had between 6-7000 entries in 2019. This year, all bets are off; people are so pleased to be able to get out and compete, competitions in areas with large populations (NY area for instance) will be busy, I bet. It is a well run event, very competitor-friendly. The Gavrilines want their dancers to be happy.

IIRC, there were semis in the silver smooth multis, but I'm not sure, and the results are no longer on the Paragon page, so I can't easily look it up.

HOA is a lovely competition--Eric and Michelle are wonderful hosts. In 2019, we had quarter finals for smooth and semis for rhythm. We really enjoyed it, and are thinking about doing it again this year.

One can get an idea from looking at the SuperShag videos, but they don't always post the semis, so there's still guess work.

How would you compare Paragon to Constitution?

Constitution feels more "normal" to me; Paragon goes the extra distance in terms of atmosphere and quality of pro-am experience.
 
So Embassy has the world title this year. Is that every other year? Where does that World title go every other year? Thanks!

Which world title? They tend to rotate all over the place. USBC used to make sure they got at least one world title each year.

According to the web site, they have the "world" Smooth, Rhythm, and Pro-am championships. I think at least some of these alternate with Ohio Star Ball. None are much danced outside of North America, which is why I put "world" in quotes, though if they actually have WDC recognition of these, that would be cool.
