Latterly I am only challenging Joe's description of shared balance that the lady
is so heavily dependent on her partner that she has to be muscled around.

I think he was saying that the ladies who require that are leaning too much and that they are likely wrong. He was suggesting that perhaps you dislike shared weight (as does he) because the ladies you have experienced doing it are not doing it properly (not properly counterbalancing but rather becoming dead weight requiring muscle rather than natural forces of physics to lead). And he said nothing about the muscles being arm muscles. I'm pretty sure he's read the AT threads enough to know that AT can be led without any arm involvement. In fact, if the woman is leaning that much, most likely the leader isn't (and can't) lead with the arms anyway.

Don't mean to put words in your mouth Joe, but that's how I read your post.

I explored Escrucio Tango Sciatico first.
. . . .

I haven't delved into that exact style derivation, and I have no plans to! I don't like it at all.

But I do think I've learned some styles that were part of the larger Escrucio school. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Tango Arthritico is part of that tradition, although I'm not sure if it is the original style or an offshoot. I've also been exploring a more recent development in the evolution of tango... Arthritico Nuevo..

I've got news for you - nor did I like it!
In this case, no pain, no gain was a truism.
Hopefully I don't have to attend the school of Escrucio ever again.
Don't suppose I should bet on that though.

Hopefully the upright axis (guessing here!)) of the Arthritico Nuevo variant
is rather easier on your joint pain than Tango Arthritico. Good Luck.

I think basically we are misunderstanding each others posts. Rereading Joe's
post he seems to have drawn an inference I never stated nor intended.
And you already know I don't like the terms shared weight or shared balance
as they have implications beyond what actually happens in Tango.

In the written word accurate, consistent and accepted terminology is important
for understanding which is why I prefer the more technically accurate
counter weighting which infers nothing about control nor balance in the
context of Tango. It's much easier to just show someone!

I think we've beaten this one almost to death now.

Jesus who gives a crap? If you like being leaned on, just ask the women who lean, don't ask the ones who don't. If you don't like being leaned on , don't ask the leaners.
