Best Ballroom Dance Movies

Not what I call the best, this is a documentary, 'Ballroom Dancer'(2011) with Slavik Kryklyvyy and Anna Melnikova....kind of sad movie, but at least it's closest to the reality of professional ballroom dance world...(I get offended by some cheesy scenes in some movies that didnt capture even the least essence of the ballroom world lol)

I just watched "Faith, Hope & Love" (starring Peta Murgatroyd) on Netflix. As a faith-based film, there are spiritual themes throughout, but I never felt it got heavy. There is some ballroom - a little quickstep, some "tango" - but the dancing seemed more along the lines of what Peta would choreograph on DWTS. Overall, it was a meh for me. I'd lean towards giving it a miss unless you're a fan of Peta (or Maksim Chmerkovskiy who has a cute cameo).

Not fiction, but I'm a fan of the Pierre Dulaine documentaries "Mad Hot Ballroom" (which inspired the fictional "Take the Lead", which is a fun dancing movie in its own right and largely unrelated to its real-world source), and "Dancing in Jaffa", which is basically "Mad Hot Ballroom" but set in Israel with subtitles. "Dancing in Jaffa" is pretty powerful, and will make you proud to be a dancer.

Thanks for bumping this thread. I'd forgotten some of the recommendations, and am pleased to see that Roseland is available on DVD through my library system. I'm tempted. Then again, it all sounds so sad - and Merchant-Ivory films being sad? They're *really* sad.

ROFL- "Reproduction company" and "not for children".

I know a lot of people Who Are Such SRS Ballroom Dancers have so much to gripe about when it comes to dance movies, and most of their points are right- this applies to any dance movie IMO- but sometimes, it's just fun to watch a movie about dancing and enjoy even the cheesy, awful parts.

My favorite HORRIBLE dance movies are any of the StepUps and Love n' Dancing. They are truly groan-worthy. About the only movie I really got mad at for sucking so very, very hard was Silver Linings.

I liked Mad About Mambo and Strictly Ballroom for the ouch-factor.
What's "SRS"? Serious?

I just watched Dark Feathers (2024). I definitely didn't get it. It's meant to be a psychological thriller. But at least I enjoyed playing "Spot the Ballroom Celeb", like Andrea and Iveta Faraci. Karina Smirnoff has a starring role. @tbrennen has a cameo though I don't think he hangs around DF anymore. And SF Bay Area residents may recognize some of the shooting locations.

It's streaming on the usual places - free on Tubi.

So far I'm enjoy watching Dirty Dancing, Shall We Dance (Japanese version), Strictly Ballroom, and Center Stage.

Others I have seen that I also like are Mao's Last Dance, Feel the Beat, Battle and Battle Freestyle (last three titles on Netflix).

From the looks of this thread it appears there are a lot more titles I am not aware of. I'd like to know any others that may be out there. Any recommendations are welcome.
