Best New Songs

Think this has been posted before, but I hear it all the time now:

Elle King - Ex's and Oh's... ECSWING!

Hear this song when I go out Latin dancing every now and then. It has some great elements of Samba in it, but never quite hits stride.

Nicky Jam - El Perdon

Wiener Waltz? (and yes, Viennese are really called that)

Like I'm Gonna Lose You - Meghan Trainor ft. John Legend

In what way does it feel awkward ? The music? The movement ?

Maybe you should try this WCS boot camp - http://www.johnlindo.com/JohnLindo.com/Boot_Camp_1.html. Even though I'm a leader and it's a follwers boot camp, I would try it if I wasn't going to be out of town at a competition.

The movement feels a bit awkward to me. Perhaps it being less of a structured dance is what I'm not comfortable with about it. Don't get me wrong, dancing is dancing and while I still love it WCS is just something I've been avoiding.

I have a friend that's going to this boot camp. We'll see if I can work it out in my schedule.

Re: the structure, I don't quite know how to express this properly but unlike other dances, WCS isn't quite design in accordance with the music the way other dances are. For example the music is counted in 8s. But the first patterns you learn are 6 count patterns so they are "off" the music. If a phrase is ideally 32 beats and you dance only 6 count patterns you will be in the middle of a pattern when the phrase change happens. And, phrasing aside, the dance does seem very loosely structured. If often looks kind of free form.

Cool ! She is definitely one of the best ! I have posted videos of her in the WCS videos thread.

LOOOOOOOOVE this song! Found out about it this week and worked on my international rumba with my partner to it. Ended up having spectactors at the gym because were playing it a bit too loud.

Anyway, video unavailable for some reason, so here's the actual song video, skip to 1:14 to hear it:

You can hear the DJ mix on this site. https://www.facebook.com/BeginToMoveIt/app_2405167945

I do get a kick out of what a good mixer can do. I'm on the fence about this particular song. He/She had to speed up the song considerably in addition to putting the rhythm line track under the music. Makes Adele sound very un-Adele-like. Kinda warbly. But with repeated listens I might grow to like it. At the very least, it would be amusing to see the reactions of people at a social dance party who are familiar with the original. :jawdrop: :troll:

A mixer is a song that would encourage otherwise shy dancers to get out on the floor. 5-6 minutes is good as long as you have good rotation. Here is a classic mixer:

Isn't vocabulary a funny thing; what words mean to one person versus what they mean to another.

I took "mixer" to mean the one who does the mixing.
