Blackpool Dance Festival 2011 Question

Hi there! This is my first post and I'm excited to be on Dance Forums.

I'm going to be in England during the Blackpool Dance Festival and having watched the festival on DVD for the past 10 years, I'd like to attend in person! Does anyone have any information on how I can get tickets? I'm even open to buying tickets off someone who isn't using all sessions from their ticket. I'm hoping to go to one (or both) of the professional sessions.

Thanks!

standing seats are very affordable and can be bought at the last minute... actual seats usually sell out very quickly. I have found that I have a much better view standing than I would in many of the seats (especially the upper balcony). The really pimp seats obviously have the best view, but those are impossible to get. With standing, you can still see everything and are frequently at eye level with the competitors so you get a lot of eye contact and winks for your cheering (esp in latin). After pro latin on wednesday, almost everyone leaves so there is a high probability of you snagging an unoccupied seat for am and pro standard. That is what I have done for the last few years, and always ended up watching pro standard from the second row :)

hope that helps!

ps I can also recommend a really really cheap (like 66 pounds for four nights cheap) but clean bed and breakfast that is about a block away from the ballroom if you are on a budget. I stayed there for two years, got my own bedroom, and complimentary breakfast which was a great deal for someone who only comes for the last few days of the festival. I did have to share a bathroom, but college makes your standards of living considerably lower so in my opinion it was the freaking Taj Mahal. Owners are nice too.

I miss Blackpool so much. This was the highlight of our dancing career. I feel sad for those who can't compete at this event due to restrictions.

Most available seats are not worth the money. With a standing ticket and some strategy you can see most of the competition with the possible exception of the pro finals.

and complimentary breakfast
Depends on how you feel about blood-red eggs, beans, and salty bacon. Or how you feel after.

Yup, exactly my point. I have had pretty awesome views of the pro latin final from standing and saw the pro-standard final from seats (not front row) with an unobstructed view. A little maneuvering and it's possible.

LOL actuallly the quality of the breakfast is quite good... though by the fourth day I am tired of it.

Welcome to DF dancedancedace99!

I had gotten seat at one time, cost like $500, was good seat. However later I found out I could also get good views by standing so after that everytime I went there, I buy standing tickets, saved costs.

I'd never pay for a seat unless it was actual front row, ground floor . . . the rest are a waste of money, unless of course it's your intention to pay for the pleasure of having the back of somebody's head in your face. I stand every year, and will keep on doing so. You can buy tickets on the day if you're happy enough to do that.

Over the last few years, my friends and I have often decided at the last minute to attend on days when we didn't originally plan to attend, and have bought tickets on our way into the ballroom, it's never been a problem.

yup, I have bought tickets at the door as well... for am standard so there wasn't much concern I would get in. But my coach got in last minute for pro latin which is one of the most heavily attended events. For the last two years I have been meaning to get am latin tix last minute but always end up passed out in my hotel in a jet lag/travel induced stupor...
