I'm bored with danceforums.com. When I joined, I recall all kinds of spirited conversation about all kinds of dance related topics...it appears that over time, we have lost many dedicated members, as is to be expected with any online community...but we also have lost our passion and spirit. What happened to all the controversial posts, the angst, the passion, the arguments, the heated debate? I have stopped posting because I can't summon enough energy to get excited about any of the current posts. At least that was fun. This is boring

Many questions have been answered before, old threads are useful, and more people use social media for sense of community, not websites...

Yeah. At least I noticed the moderators stopped referring “controversial” subjects to search function on old posts. But seriously, it seems like everything has been discussed and said already: teacher problems, partner problems, competition blues pre- and post-, dresses, make-up, hair.... I would like to see more discussion on technique - I am not qualified to give any advice, but I love reading posts from pros on technique , especially when I understand the figures being discussed.
After a point I found it hard to summon the energy for the Nth iteration of the same-old same-old controversy.
I guess the NDCA, USA Dance, and WDSF have had a go at making some political controversy. I sort of pooh-poohed the last one of those I noticed. Maybe thereby I did the forum a disservice.
I've been considering for a while now whether the change-a-word-by-one-letter thread might benefit from another bump in word length; however I don't deem myself a frequent enough player to assert that change.
Also now I feel curious about whatever happened to the copyright of the ... well, I hate to contemplate reviving that one. Maybe someone could invent a new dance and copyright it, and try to assert the copyright (but only when someone teaches it wrong, natch)?
Are there any recent technological innovations in brassieres that warrant reviving ladies-only fit/sizing discussions (that mostly get comments from men) from a new angle? (I was very proud of my TTIWWP backcronym on one of those threads, long ago.)

Think for controversial discussion a critical mass is required. But I fear we do not reach that numbers concerning some topics. I also find that we have not enough age-dependent topics as for instance teaching, hosting, djaying, health issues.

I agree with the observation that there was more, interesting activity on DF in past years. Back then it seemed like there was an effort to generate new threads. Additionally, there were a number of active posters, many who either have left or cut back considerably on posting.
I'm not sure what can be done to improve the situation. Maybe we should generate a list of topics for discussion. From there, we can revive old threads and/or start new ones. I'll start. Feel free to add to the list.
- Aging and dance challenges
- Exercise regime, either for dancing or in general
- Nutrition requirements, either for dancing or in general - might include calories, types of food, nutritional supplements
- What activities outside of dancing have significantly helped your dancing - like for me balance poses in yoga have made a tremendous difference in AT
-Syllabus challenges - as an example, I am competing in AT, and as far as I know there is no NDCA syllabus
- Lessons learned from past dance events
- Dance goals
- Discouragement as a barrier to dancing
- When is it time to stop taking dance lessons?

I think this forum is very much alive. I have been able to get answers to almost anything I've been looking for and not finding elsewhere. Majority on here are smart and well articulate people I can learn from.
However, I sense there are a few topics that are not customary to discuss publicly (based on some private messages I received). Don't know if back in old days it was the same. Also, it appears to me that some members might be here for advertising their business.

Well, right now I am working on foxtrot. So how about your view on intricacies of feather step and three step for follower to make it look like a real foxtrot - pisition of feet, hips, center, shoulders, head and spine (did I muss anything)?
This is just an example.... These kind of questions ARE probably boring to many people
